So, since im now 100% sure im gonna be towing my rally car and trailer to Catlett, VA next month, what all do i need to do mod wise to get the truck ready? ive got a Tekonsha P3 and the pnp harness, and will be installing them this weekend. combined trailer and car weight with fuel and tiedowns should be around 4700 or so. the trailer is a 15' steel deck tandem axle car hauler.

just get the right amount of drop hitch to keep the trailer level. other than that, all you can really do is check your tire pressure and fluid levels.

How dare you two. Haven't you read any thread on this forum?! If you are going to tow anything bigger than a push mower with your Tacoma you will blow it up and you might as well get a F-450 to save the headaches...

I always find it somewhat comical how people act like the Tacoma can't pull anything.

My first truck was a 95 Silverado with an automatic 4L60E transmission and a 350 ci V8, throttle bottle, not vortec. The motor was rated for 190 hp/300 ft-lbs which is laughable for a V8 in todays standards. But I pulled around a 29' camper all the time, 2-3 times a month from Spring to Fall, a dual axle hydraulic dump trailer, a New Holland tractor with bucket and bushog, ASV50 skid steer and never had issues. Be cautious and pay attention and you are fine.

The Tacoma is a midsize but the power is more for HP and just a touch under on TQ. I guess my point is I see no reason why you can't pull around what the truck is rated for when the popular opinion is anything over 4000# and you're over doing it.

You near Cunningham Falls State Park? It's off of 15 north of 70. Depending on the weather this Sunday I plan on riding up there to check out the campground.

Yup... its rated to 6500 for a reason, and thats probably just about the limit going up hills and such. Catlett shouldn't be too bad, as its almost all flat on the way down. towing up to frostburg after that will be interesting, lots of massively steep hills that require a running start to make it up
