I went from an Access cab 6' bed for 13 years (03 and an 07) onto a 2014 DCSB. I wanted a DC this time but also wanted a manual. You can't get a standard DCLB here in Canada. I would have gotten a SB anyway. I don't want a longer truck. I also carry my snowmobile in the back on a sled deck. I still plan on getting my sled in my SB. I find the DCSB more sporty looking, less of a work looking truck. The DCSB like a dual purpose truck.

the long bed is just as nimble as and doesn't have any shorter turn radius than my single cab short bed chevy. And I can still put my four wheeler in it and shut the tail gate. Or Load 3 kayaks into the bed, and shut the tailgate. You can have a toolbox and still have a useful bed. and it looks better when lifted to me than a short. DCLBFTW

I love being able to sleep in the bed of my DCLB under the Leer cap with the screen windows open, it's a delightful and stealthy way to camp anywhere. Trying to sleep in a short bed with the tail gate up would suck.

If ya'll would have just wrapped your wood we wouldn't be having this discussion and everybody would be happy with their long bed access cabs and regular cabs.

For some people yes, me not so much. I like being able to haul dirty backpacks and other gear in the back that I wouldn't want to mess up the interior of a SUV. I also built a support out of 2x6's that allows me to carry full sheets of plywood/sheetrock. I got a Snugtop that has tool boxes on the side that allow me great access to my tools and other gear that would normally be taking up space in the back of a 4R. Fits lots of uses and I wanted the Off Road so no DCLB.

All kidding aside, both beds have their advantages and disadvantages.
Certainly the short bed is easier to park, and so is probably a better trail choice. Toyota designed it that way too since the short bed is available with limited slip axles, but the long bed isn't.
The long bed on the other hand can carry a bigger load, rides better, and tows a whole lot better than the short bed.
    And it looks better too!
    Oopsie! do I sound biased?
Oh, and also, the limited slip is easily added to a long bed pick-up.

I had my 2006 short bed for about 8 years. I always missed the bed of my 96 xtra cab.
I would always see the long beds and think damn that truck is sexy. Now I have a 2012 long bed
I would never go back to a short bed. NEVER!!!

DCSB all day. I wanted a factory locker and I can always sleep corner to corner. Plus, a short bed is less likely to get hit in a parking lot. And when someone asks if I can help them move, I just tell them my bed is too short.

More reasons and uses having a long bed over a short bed. I've seen long beds off road perfectly fine, lets not forget a lot of trucks can have an even longer wheel base. The long bed looks better in my opinion too.
