Been about 500 miles since the TSB and it is a completely different vehicle. I was thinking that the way it originally drove was how all trucks drove. Now, it is amazing. Has a great throttle response like my Lexus sc did and it's getting better and better. So happy with the update. I honestly think they purposely did this for the epa ratings. For those who say gas mileage went down, mine has stayed consistent overall but on short drives it has gone down a little. Once combined with more steady driving it balances it out by having a higher highway mileage than before so it's even in my book.

I wonder if this TSB advances the learning of the "learning transmission" on these trucks ? I swear I had all the symptoms this TSB fixes when mine was brand new. Now that I have 20,000 something miles on the thing, it seems to behave the way people describe their transmission operates with the flash performed. I don't know how I can justify having the thing done... I'm getting over 22 mpg consistently, and if you really mash the gas pedal with authority the thing will go pretty good...for a six banger !

here is the review of my 2017 TRD Sport 4x2........Today I went to Toyota San Diego as planned....Got there at 0740 and vehicle went back to wait for it to cool down..Spoke to John, Master Tech" about what I would like done.....He asked me again where I got my information and I asked if anything I asked or said was incorrect....no answer......At 1045, I asked how thing were going and was told they are still waiting for cool down......At 1345, temp was still at 98F....At 1445, tech came by and said that when they checked, it dripped out, but added ½qt and it bleed out ½qt....I asked if it was low, and he said," well what we put in came out". .....I believe that response was bullshit......It was probably low and they just did not want to admit it....

I looked at the original note page and R/O....It said" corrected transmission fluid"....then when I went ti get paperwork and sign for vehicle, it was crossed out and stated " fluid was correct"

At that point, the other two items, check tires on the original R/O and Inspection were said to be done, but nothing on final receipt..I asked the service advisor said it was done and that it is required by law to be done each time a vehicle comes in for service.....My last visit to Temecula Toyota ended up with them giving me a inspection checklist showing all of that being done....Oh well.....

Botton line: I drove from Temecula, Ca to San Diego Toyota (59.2 miles)......Computer showed 25.7mpg.....drove back home from Toyota San Diego to Temecula (62 miles) and computer showed 25.7mpg.....The tranny shifted very, very smooth...Could hardly feel it at all.....No hesitation between shifts and no searching when using cruise control 70mph...Transmission shifted to 5th when going up hill and when needed went to 4th and when at the top, back to 5th and then to 6th......There is a big difference in shifting......I am not sure of the placebo effect or not, but I am very anal about things and really keep up with all the that are present and know when thing have changes.....I know this because I was a Marine jet pilot and am very aware of my equipments performance.

All and all, I am convinced things have changed for the better......will be in a better position with 500 to 1,000 more miles and if any changes, will post an update.....thanks to all who helped me understand what was happening and what I should do.....with two times having it checked, two different dealers, both saying it is alright, I question whether it is reasonable to file a claim with corporate now.....any one have any thoughts on that?

    Thanks again......

I went to Mountain States (I25/US36) where I bought the truck. My only symptom directly relating to the TSB was relating to the cruise control. I asked the service advisor whether they were going to have to duplicate the issue via a test drive. He said he did not know. Do not believe they drove it prior. Paperwork indicates a test drive (3miles) was done after the reflash. I had the TSB on my IPad when I checked in.

Had my TSB performed today at Arlington Toyota in Jacksonville,FL with no questions asked. Didn't have the major issues as most describe. Mostly a harsh 2nd to 1st downshift and weird shifting overall including a strange shimmy/slip feeling in the low 30mph and mid 40mph. 2 hrs later they were done. Apparently the fluid was full although I'm not sure they manually checked(like I requested). Overall the truck shifts much smoother and seems to have better shift points. One sidenote...I didn't receive a sticker under the hood.

The service tech told me that originally they just filled the fluid and sent people on their way until Toyota came out with the TSB. He also said Toyota became aware of the low fluid and fixed the problem. He was probably blowing smoke. I have a 16 TRD OR 4x4 built in mid June from Texas. So far my gas mileage is the same.

I was worried the engine/tranny combo was going to make me trade it in for a Tundra in a year or so. I was staring to think it was a mistake trading my 07 4runner!

    My observations so far:

    1. better acceleration
    2. holds gear much longer going up inclines
    3. better gas mileage +2 mpg
    4. R to D delay is gone
    5. smoother shifts

I'm only four days in now but it's notably better! I average 50 miles a day driving around the hills of southwest Austin and am at about 200 miles since TSB applied last Saturday. I recommend it!

This was my conspiracy theory too. Partly because the same debacle happened with the Gen 2 after it was rolled out.

I'm first time owner of Taco 2016. I noticed the transmission is not as smooth as I expected from stop and go and deceleration to complete stop. Does anybody have same issue?

What is TSB anyway? Can I just take the print out from the first post to dealership to fix the transmission?

Can somebody explain to me like I'm a 10 years old?

Yes. I would just explain the issues to my service advisor but it sounds like I am one of the few that deals with an excellent service department.

TSB completely fixed what it was supposed to fix and also eliminate my uphill gear-hunting loop. I'm VERY pleased with it so far. I also don't buy the bullshit that it's only driving better because it's in "learning mode". When I first had the truck it was gear-hunting like crazy up hills while in learning mode. That problem has now been eliminated.

Also, the service manager told me that the low fluid problem was addressed by Toyota and trucks built from March 2016 onward do not have the low-fluid issue.

I think this TSB was an overall transmission upgrade from Toyota to fix major issues, but it was masqueraded as a minor update to fix minor problems. Pretty clever way to fix major problems without ever admitting there was a problem!

I have been dealing with AutoNation on Arapahoe for a few months with this issue because I bought my truck there. I know the TSB just came out last month but they lied to me every time I went in there. I took it in in April for the rough shifting and they said it was normal. They also told me they manually checked the trans fluid but they didn't I painted the check plug and it didn't move. Took it in middle of June for my 5000 mile and I asked before taking it in to have the fluid manually checked and they said it was a lengthy process and involves a tech. I said that's why I'm dropping it off all day. I go to pick it up and it says on the ticket that they didn't check it. I was furious since I was told it was part of the 5000 mile and that they were going to do it. So they set up another day for me to drop it off and have it manually checked. Drop it off before 9am and I'm told it will be all taken care of. I get a call at 1:30pm saying they can't recreate the issue. I asked again if they manually checked the fluid level and they said no. They said they were going to let it sit for a little while and try again. I picked it up and they still hadn't manually checked but told me they did and everything checked out fine including the fluid level. So I leave and check the plug. Still hasn't been touched so they lied again to me. I opened a case with Toyota and after a few days she says the service mgr will call me and get it all taken care of. After playing phone tag with Toyota for a month she finally asks me if everything is ok. I tell her I never got a call from the service mgr and I'm still having the same issues. She then asks me what I want her to do to help me. REALLY? I told her I do not trust this dealer because they have lied to me and you are not helping at all. I have a friend who works at Stevenson East Toyota so called him and asked him about the TSB. He said bring it in and I'll do it after I explained what it was doing. He said my symptoms were exactly why the TSB was created. It literally took him 10 minutes to do it and they charge 45 minutes to do it. So after he got done we spent 20 minutes customizing it. HAHAHA! Sorry for the rant but all I can say is stay away from AutoNation Arapahoe if you can. Their service department doesn't even know what oil filter the 2016 Tacoma takes. Well they do now thanks to me.

sent truck in to dealer to have the TSB done, transmission would delay going into gear, but the transmission would shift in and out of overdrive at highway speeds like crazy, and would if there is a small head wind it would shift in and out in and out.hope this will take care of it.this is the only thing about my Tacoma I don't care for.:annoyed:

Had the TSB performed yesterday and my initial thoughts were that the truck shifter better and had better acceleration. Today I drove about 200 miles for work on road and off road. I felt like I was back to smashing the gas pedal to get the truck up to speed. Also, I had the same shimmy/shudder/slip feeling during acceleration to 4th gear (low 30's) and into 5th gear. Had a co-worker in the truck who has owned two 2nd gens. He felt the same shudder/slip feeling I did. Anyone else having this issue or know what it might be? I'm feeling like I should have bought the Tundra!

David3821 I am anxious see if anyone can shed any light on your symptoms. I have the exact same shimmy/shudder/slip feeling during acceleration
problem. My truck has been in the shop for 3 weeks(1week at a time) since I bought it in June. I have (supposedly) had both TSB's preformed and a crank sensor replaced. Truck is a 16 Limited. Toyota did extend the warranty to 8yrs/125000miles which was nice but I bought a truck not a warranty. Extremely disappointed to date with way this transmission shifts. Scott
