Bed space is already pretty limited and I don't have or plan on a roof rack so kind of ruled out the long ones. But what do you put in yours? May talk me into it.

If you really want one, I'll let you know but it'll have to be after I get the new cases and it'll probably be a while.

I went the opposite route, I just throw 2 1694's in the bed of the truck with literally everything we could possible use.

Jeeze! 2?? Yeah they hold a ton and I like that they are sealed (keeps the dust out) but just to heavy for one person to lift

Not really sure. Shoot me a pm if serious. May be a while till I sell. And shipping will probably be expensive

I keep bedding for us and dog, food, cutting board/knife, stove, all that jazz in one.

In the other tote, I keep all my recovery gear that doesn't fit behind my rear seats. There's still plenty of space in there for when I get a winch and need to store snatch block, shackles, and such

Hey Crom. When are you planning a return trip to the eastern Sierras? Im familiar with a decent amount of the lone pine to mammoth area, but judging by your personal thread and here on this thread it seems you're much more seasoned. Been fishing the Sierras for years and looking for more primitive camping areas. Be cool to join you on the next one.

Oh nice! I love an old fashioned shoveling to death. Almost as good as a stoning to death. Ill bring my neighbor - the village idot. We can sacrifice him. No one likes him.

    Thanks.

I probably will not return to Eastern Sierra until next summer.

I was a hardcore backpacker and hiker before Tacoma happened, so that was very helpful. My collective wheeling experience though only dates back to '09. Originally the Tacoma was a means to an end, it allowed me to get further in the backcountry to do more rigorous hikes. But due to a chronic ankle injury I've gravitated towards vehicular exploration.

Because most of my trips were of the solo variety, I've made it my mission to understand as much of the Tacoma technology as possible to help me be as self sufficient as possible.

Group trips can be a lot of fun. I've only done a few of those. One was with a group from this forum back in April. It was great for me because i was finally able to meet great people that I've known for years, and many of them had a passion for the same public lands that I love so much.

    The camaraderie was superb.

You are welcome to use any of the trip reports to your advantage.

The Mojave, Anza Borrego, and Death Valley are all in the pipeline for the rest of the year for our family.

Before my kids were born it was so easy to do trips whenever I wanted. My work schedule is flexible.

Now things are quite different. My kids are my primary focus. They are at the age now where they have social schedules and play dates, birthday parties and what not on the weekends. Plus school has started again so we're more or less locked into the school calendar, which makes multi day trips difficult or impossible.

It's the reason we do two big trips in the summer.

Thankfully, once or twice a year, I get out alone.

Solitude is something I feel that's very necessary for me and it's so rare.

Anyways, I've thought about doing some group trips for forum members into the San Diego back country, but they'd have to be one day events, I think.

Might be able to put something together this fall in that regard. I still want to go wheel with @nfs257 :)

One thing I've wanted to do for some time is put together trips with families with kids that are close in age to my own kids.

I've done it before, but none of them were off-road capable, so campground with 100's of others. Still enjoyable, but less than ideal.

One day I'd like to do a Baja trip, but only with Baja veterans and in a sizable group. @DavidK

Just rambling now, but hopefully gives you some insight into my situation. :)

As far as the shovel, I have burried many things in my travels, but no people that I can remember! lol

To bring up trips with kids....

All of the people in my group are in the early 30's. We all have midgets that come on "kid trips" and they range from 5 to 7 years old. If you're interested in the next one let me know and we can get together on that. More kids the merrier...... until it become chaos. lol.

Hey, thanks for the response. I empathize with you regarding injuries. I was a lean outdoors, sports playing guy until 4 years ago when I blew out some discs in my back. Like yourself I jumped into a truck and elected to continue being outdoors with the help of a motor. Count me in for a day trip into SD whenever you plan it. Mojave, Anza, Death Valley, and Joshua Tree are on my agenda for the cooler months ahead as well. You'll be with your family and I'll be with...whomever is down, so maybe we'll pass one another on the trails. I appreciate your detailed trail reports - I'm horrible about that. I can photo dump onto my "build page" but I feel I owe it to myself to wait until I'm ready to give all those photos a solid blog. Baja - YES! Definitely want to hit that area up as well. Good call going in a large group and with vets of the territory down there. Till next time - Happy Wheelin'! Oh @nfs257 is an alright guy. I mean I tolerate him whenever he texts me. Kidding, Chris! haha!
