Did Toyota actually install recall springs on your truck? If they did I don't think you'd be eligible for a reimbursement. That's done if you had to replace the springs before the recall was done and even then it's going to be a little bit of a battle because they may want you to prove you replaced them due to a defect.

Toyota's recall isn't about the negative arch or spring rate of the packs but the number of clamps, so from their perspective the ride height is irrelevant just as long as they are considered "safe" if an individual leaf breaks.

I have an appt to get my springs checked today, then they said 3-4 weeks for parts after that...all i see are bad things about these...should i just keep the regular 3 pack that is already on my truck and say screw it?

It's a recall, so warranty doesn't matter. I'm at 90k miles and out of all warranties and i got all the recall letters about bringing my truck in.

    Getting in on this discussion...

I recently picked up a 2008 AC that has had some sort of lift done on it, looks like 5100's all around and the front springs seem pretty stiff(not sure how to identify them). Rear leafs look brand new, I'm guessing the dealer did the recall before I bought it, it is a 4 leaf pack.

Truck sat level when I bought it. Then I just picked up a shell and rack for the shell this week. Rear of truck now sits about an inch lower than the front, and the rear leafs are completely flat.

Question is, will one of the 3 leaf progressive AAL's get me the additional lift I need and correct the flat leaf issue? I need at least an inch of lift just to level it with the shell installed, and that's not including any additional cargo in the back, so ideally, I'd probably be looking for 1.5"-2" of lift in the rear.

I would take advantage of the recall. I had 3-leaf OE packs and found the recall springs were an improvement in ride. You'll get 4-leaf packs although it seems they are not really much increase in spring rate. I got a slightly lift, maybe 0.5 inch, but I also have a camper shell. It's only a couple of days out of your life for the inspection and work. They didn't keep my truck for a month waiting on springs.

Is your truck an AC shortbed? Mine is a DC longbed with a topper and my recall Springs are bent all the way down to a frown (with nothing in the bed). If I put my ice house on, I'd be riding on the bumpstops. I really wish I had left my old rusted OEM 3 leaf pack (with an AAL) in instead of getting the recall. Now I forked up the $ on some quality old man emu leafsprings

Access Cab with 6 foot bed. My original 3 leaf packs were badly negatively arched and the recall springs weren't that much better. They weren't flat like I'd expect at least. Like I say I don't think Toyota is uprating the springs to be equivalent with the TSB springs for load capacity.

I still replaced them (I have standard Dakars, no extra leaf). I prefer the ride to be truck-like and it is with the OME, so I'm happy with them. But the original OEM 3-leaf springs rode just terrible and I thought the replacements were an improvement. It also turned out that one of my shocks was bad so even with a dead shock the recall springs were noticeably better.

I'd guess you'd be happy with the recall springs with AAL put in. Plus there's a peace of mind I suppose that you'll have more clamps on the main pack, which all things equal is better than not having them.

I have the 4 leaf TSB on my 2006 AC and took it in for this. They said that since I have the TSB they didn't need to do the recall.

Anyone else run into this? Do I actually need the recall?

as I remember, this new recall has to do with springs that only have 2-3 spring keepers. the new springs have 4 keepers.

If your TSB springs have 3 retaining clips per side, then you are included in the recall. The correct recall spring part # is 04005-34404. Don't let them BS you into getting the 04005-34305 springs; read your recall letter carefully. I am still waiting for my 34404 springs after 3 trips to the dealer and arguing with them that the 34404 springs replace the TSB 4-leaf set.

I have the 4 retaining clips I believe and purchased the truck in 2014 so I'm not sure when it was completed. I would have to check part numbers to see which springs are in there now though. Thanks for the replies.

All AC/DC models that have the Harsh Ride TSB springs should get the new 04005-34404 spring set.

You will definitely gain the 1" you want because I gained 1.5" with the 3 leaf AAL and that's WITHOUT the over load. If you leave the overload you'd probably get closer to 2" and still be able to carry a load also. I'd say you'd be safe with the 3 leaf WITH THE overload kept in it

If toyota performed the recall on your truck, they are done with you. I put the springs on in january and was still waiting for the recall springs to arrive when i called toyota about the reimbursement. Basically, i had to fax them receipts, proof of ownership, reason for springs being replaced and that is how it works. They decide and notify you.
