    Afternoon everyone

The Blue cut fire has been laying down with not much growth due to higher humidity all day but the communities of Lytle creek and Wrightwood are still in danger . All day there has been no smoke plume visible then about 1/2 hr ago the winds shifted from the SSE to the NNW and from the West and gusts up to 30 plus mph

As I was driving to the store I could see the fire but there was no smoke plume because it was laying down . I walk out of the store 10 min later and the winds are gusting like Santa Ana winds . I look towards the fire and there is a huge dark gray / black smoke plume visible

This means the fire has become wind fed and now burning towards the east from its northerly direction all day . The fire has just erupted and still only at 4% containment

Cross posted in the WTF thread, but I thought it was worth a repost:

Strange story: Our local guy in charge is former military. So, he likes to hire former military. Because of this, he was contacted recently by the gov't. They asked him to give a new guy a job, and he said yes. Some sort of relocation program for people who are at-risk to be targeted by bad guys because they helped us in the war.

New guy is Iraqi, former chemistry teacher. Trained as a chemical engineer. Speaks 4 languages, and was used by US forces in Iraq as a translator. Decent enough guy, or so we thought.

Monday, he calls in; wife is sick. Tuesday, same thing, going to the hospital. Wednesday, nothing. Today, nothing. So HR calls. No answer. They call his gov't contact, who can't get a hold of him, either. They call and ask the police to check up on him. Cops go to the apt. and no one is there. Place is cleaned out, and he's in the wind.

    *cue creepy Twilight Zone music*

I got invited to a meeting of a newly formed local off road club tonight. I only met one member up until that point. He was mid 20's I'd guess. When I drove by their meeting being held at a Pizza Hut, I figured out real quick that I would be older than most of 'em's GRANPA'S!o_O Average age probably 20....Some still in high school. Thinking they asked me so someone would be old enough to buy 'em beer....:cheers:

Thinking this might not be a good fit! Flattered they'd ask though! :oldglory:

Few years back I camped and hunted on the edge of the BWCA Wilderness Area as one of the infamous fires burned. I was as close as 4 miles. Straight line winds didn't help, I pushed it more than I likely should. Don't be that guy! Be safe and keep your head on a swivel good sir.

I recall your 308 target post and you had Lytle Creek written on it. At first I thought that was a strange spelling for Little Creek, I qualified there each year for several years on the range with a gunny as the range master. Took me a bit to sort it out, and BTW that was some damn good shooting on your part! If it is threatening Lytle Creek it is threatening you, just saying...

Ugly? Hmmm maybe but there is something about it that is beautiful. It has character, and a lot of it. Well done.

Started last weekend on the garage and almost have ownership of it again. House AC went out again yesterday and traced it back to the thermostat and got that fixed today after work, almost 90. Temps still dropping and it is a wonderful low humidity inside! Highs this weekend are in the 60's. It is getting close to hunting season and the dogs time to earn his keep. Or at least put to the test all the training he has done on me :)
