It's pointless for me. All my servers that are in production that need to be managed are AWS cloud servers. My VM's I boot up 2-3 times a year.

Now if I had to manage a bunch of servers, then yes bladlogic is handy

Oh, its your lab, ok that makes sense.

How do you like having your PROD env in AWS?

We run a hadoop cluster up there but the connectivity issues are killing us.

I'll take your beard. I can't grow one no matter how long I don't shave for.

AWS is amazing IMO. I never have to worry about patching servers, upgrading servers for more power, adding new severs to the rack, etc. They take care of everything. Lots of tools to use. My fav part about AWS is that they have virtual work stations/tablets you can use to test on. So when we start indexing our content it takes 1 person on 1 PC over a month. I spool up 20 VM work stations and I can get it done in about 2-3 hours. Plus their support is top notch.

Downside- it's EXPENSIVE. I think our production bill is 35-45k a month. But we do have a lot of power and can serve up to half a million people easy without peaking out.

I'd say if your company can afford it, go for it. But people will loose their jobs because it takes a lot of the maintenance out of the picture.

Next time I see you remind me and I'll show you a pic of what 3-4 months of not shaving looks like. Peach fuzz in patches basically.

Sucks because I would like to have a beard.

Rules because I buy razors once a year, if that.

Once you move away from 4300K, you actually lose light visibility. There is a perception that it throws farther, but i believe it's only because you can see the 'color' of the light.

It's expensive and connectivity can be unreliable. You can't hold them accountable to the SLA that you sign with them unless you have enough leverage.

This is like what brand tire..... opinions everywhere.

    I agree 100% ^^^

I've been through a handful of iterations of my headlights since 05. The 5500's I have now, I like the bright, pure white better than anything I've had. I found the 4500 (prior to these) no where near as bright.

I have an eye condition that includes light sensitivity. I drive for HOURS at night often, and they don't wear on me any worse than any other night driving.

I should also add this is my first set of Morimotos.

We've never had connectivity issues with them in 3 years. Expensive, hell yes. Our company is pretty large and we use them world wide so we have leverage with them.

We had to ring our Account exec to figure out why our private direct connection kept dropping. Then we got tired of it and moved to redundant VPN connectivity. I migrated a customer to AWS because they were international, but the performance impacts still existed. If they would simplify their pricing model, i think more companies would look back into it. It's absolutely ridiculous to understand their entire pricing model.. because oh yeah it changes daily.

You are 100% right about pricing. Since the servers can spool up more HP when needed some days it's cheaper than the next. It's like 10k a month difference depending on traffic.

I used to quote out the infrastructure pieces for clients. It absolutely down right sucked. Then at no fault at the client, they want to change something.

That's what happened with us for awhile. Then we found a guy in our company who has lots of leverage with them. They turned around quite fast.

But they still get you on everything. Spool up a work station or virtual iPad, it's a fee for how much traffic you use and how long you use it. Strange. But it was still cheaper then us hosting our own servers.

One of the best movies ever made right there.

My buddy is a Dj and made a bad ass Spaceballs remix song. I'll see if he's cool with letting me post it here.
