So a cool thing I just learned about although Im sure many are familiar with on here is plasti-dip. Im thinking about blacking out my emblems and this seems like the right stuff for it! Looks pretty fun anyway to give it a shot. Im also up for wrenching as well as my rear will get swapped out eventually. Just got to figure out what exactly I want to do. Can anyone weld? Shock relocation keeps coming back to me...

I have a black taco and want to do some red plasti-dip on the emblems. Anyone ever seen a color other than black??

That sucks man. I'm doing mine black because I got a red one. I will research and see if there is anything out there as it would be cool if they had other colors.

So apparently they have all sorts of colors! This is one from home depot, looks like walmart carries this too.

ANNNNDDDDDD it looks like walmart has a smoked version for the plasti dip. I think that is the color I am going to get.

you guys do realize that the shock relocate is not just cutting stuff off and welding new on rt? your going to have to weld to your axel tube and if you don't get all your angles correct you'll end up with your tires hitting your shocks. it's not just a cut and dry thing.

    Stock....ish
Also I've read up on their install and if running stock wheels you'll most likely rub so have to run wheel spacers to clear the shock bodies

i have not done one and for those reasons it's apparently not that it can't be done but there are alot of different variables some hard to predict such as wheel loction at full tuck and even full droop and you go through all this for about 1" extra travel. there are plenty of trucks that have even had the shackle flip done which is more beneficial for articulation that have not done the shock relocate

Stock wheels with a 5.5 back spacing will rub *at full stuff* so I will most likely throw on spacers until I find a wheel with a back spacing of 4.5 or less.
It is a decent amount of work but you get more than just an inch of extra travel, it's going to be more than 2 inches of usable travel. Plus you moving the upper shock mount above the frame with creates a more stable rear, better shock geometry, and you are trading up travel for down travel with a 12in shock body. You also have the ability to position the lower shock mounts in a manner that makes them less likely to get hit by rocks and objects on the trail because they hang so low. This is what my research has shown and with the deal I got on a relocation kit and shocks makes it worth while to me

Not to start an argument, but I tend to disagree with several of these points. First if you plan to run a 285 or larger with the shock relocate and truly utilize the full travel you might want to look at wheels with around 3.5 bs so you don't rub the shock. Next, it may be 2" over a stock style rear, but if you compare to a shackle flipped rear it truly is only an inch (actually closer to 7/8 according to my measurements). I helped with one relocate and when finished we line two trucks up wirh identical setups minus the relocate and those were the measurements we got.

I am not trying to kill dreams or even hurt feelings, just sharing my first hand experience. I chose a shackle flip and no relocate bc I just couldn't justify the amount of work and extra expense for an inch.

Just curious @Lots2Learn58 are you doing the prep and welding or are you outsourcing it? That can make another huge difference.
