    Just curios,

I have a 2016 Tacoma and added small lift and since I sure need the assist handle like the 2015 Tacoma's had before.

I saw on a Tundra site someone had a demo on how to add it, being Tundra deleted it on theres as well!

    here is a PDF showing

They added it and looked like it was from factory, looked great!

I wonder if this can be done on the 2016 Tacoma or has anyone tried it!

    Any help thanks

I would like to see if this is viable, left out strictly for cost savings or if there is potential conflict with the airbag. I could use one, should be fairly inexpensive.

    I hear you,

To be honest, I don't care about that airbag on that pillar being I've driven many years before they even had them, 1965 Dodge Dart first car when I was 15 years old back in the late 70's, I know guys I'm an old Geezer!

I'm getting older and I recently slipped on the step tubes and jacked my chin up getting it! The grabbing steering wheel doest work for me!

Probably going to have to be a custom job. It's not like it was initially available then removed like in the Tundra's case, there's just no OEM part available. That, and even if you fabricated some sort of pillar with a handle, the mounting holes would need to be there if you want it to bolt up and be able to bear any sort of weight when used.

They follow Kaizen and look to eliminate anything and everything they can to reduce the cost, I think back in 2001 they eliminated them and enough people complained that they put them back starting again in 02 or 03.

I'm very interested also. We need a factory kit, or an aftermarket one. IDK enough about the 2nd gen set up to know if it can be fitted or modded to work.

But If anyone has any ideas that can help, chime in.

    Cheers!

Yeah, I talked with the dealer and he gave me the part numbers, I also took off the plastic from the pillar and there is a welded bracket with a hole and it wouldn't interfere with the AB. I've just been skeptical about doing it

Here's some of the the parts and one does show the right side asset handle I believe for an earlier model maybe!

The problem is the 2nd gen has beige/light coloured trim and headliner, we need black/dark a pillar help me handles.

I do agree that I would like them in the truck.

If there's a welded plate with a hole there's hope, all that's needed then might be to match the handle with the trim color. I'm going to the dealer next week to pick up some filters and I'll inquire about it.

    Thanks
    Cheers!

The Tundra uses the OEM handle that was on the truck before the new body style Tundra. The handles are the same. I had one and did the MOD myself on my 14.

Which is exactly what I said. Looking at pictures though, design wise the Tundra a pillar covers look roughly the same. The problem is since the Tacoma dash has changed for 3rd gens it will be interesting to see if the 2nd gen handle even lines up at all as the contours in the dash are different and then the headliner might be different where it matches up with the pillar. So the A pillar trim on the 3rd gen has changed design wise. So if anything, let's say 2nd gen plastic covers/handles do fit, it might just be better looking to change out both sides to 2nd gen a pillar plastic/handles. And that's assuming the holes line up.

It should be cheap enough for someone to buy one off eBay and see how it goes.
