Post your winter MPG's

Hey everyone,

I have been pretty bummed out about my MPG's recently. Only getting like 14-15 mpg lately. I used to be able to get 18-21 in the summer. Now it seems like its impossible to get anything decent. I am not sure if its the winter fuel to blame or that temps in Illinois have been <20 degrees???

 

14-17 MPG seems to be the norm right about now for me

 

17.2mpg right now 40ish outside the past few days. Way down from my 19mpg during the summer.

I voted 10 -14 mpg but i also drive the taco like its a race car. considering that i cant complain too much its my own falt oh well i feel your pain

 

I think it is worse now because I have a Scanguage and I can see what I am getting.

 

Yeah I think im going to have to move the scangauge from the corolla to the tacoma. I already can count on 30+ from my corolla.

 

Only 2100 on the 2010 with 8 tanks. 5 without and 3 with a HiLiner canopy. No appreciable difference in MPG. Had one high tank at 18.3 and one low at 16.6. The 16.6 is from a station that I had question about even on my 1998 Tacoma. All Chevron Regular. The 18.3 I think may have been from a low fill as all others are right at 17.2 - 17.4.

I will say between taking it easy on the first 1000 and even since I drive a little mellower that in the 98. I think the auto has something to do with it. But I have stepped on it a few times.

One thing to keep in mind in the winter is if you warm up in the AM. When I do that it can really hurt the MPG. A 10 Min warm up and a 30 min drive will have an effect on MPG.

 

When the engine is cold it will also use more fuel to get to proper operating temperature.
I return the colder it is outside the longer it takes to warm up = more fuel consumption

 

i dontt wanna talk about my v6 mpg. about 300miles to the tank if im very lucky

Gert this, in the summer i used to be able to get 100 miles out of the first quarter of a tank. Today, 50 miles. WTF???

 

Thats why I love my 4 banger.. get 19-22 no matter the season or how hard i stomp it

 

my poor 2.7l does not like the winter blend at ALL

 

V6 4WD... 80% highway miles last week. 21 mpg going 80mph. If I drove slower, then it might be close to my summer average of 23 mpg. I only fill up with Shell 87 octane too... haha

 

Yeah, my 2.7 was averaging about 19-21 depending on the amount of around town I did, lately it's been lucky to get 17. The temps only been in the mid to high 20's for about 2-3 weeks now, so I'm sure some of the loss of mpg is just more friction.

 

My last fill up was 15.5 (2001 V6 4x4 5-spd). I don't recall having this issue with my 2000 V6 4x4 5-spd when I lived in the south.

 

Where's "south" for you? I consider everything below PA "south". I know what you mean though. I'd like to see a breakdown of the types of gas available in each part of the country.

 

I am in Maryland now. Just north of DC/Bethesda area. I moved here from Little Rock. (Thanks Uncle Sam!)

 

I would be luck to get 250 per tank... It is really cold here, about 14-25 degrees. On a recent trip from Charlotte NC to Cincinnati the scan guage was avg. 14 mpg. (5-15 degrees on the trip) That was all HWY. I did have 5 people in the truck and a bed full of luggage but I didn't think that would change my avg. mpg that much. I was driving between 65-75 mph. I used to getting about 16-18 mpg on the hwy. This cold weather sucks!
