Yes Zombii. Get a small child with little fingers to install the screw that secures the actuator. Also instead of splitting the rubber gromment under the drivers seat just drill a 1/4 inch hole in the middle of it and it will basically seal itself when you fish the control wire through it.

    Pretty simple installation.

Good idea. Thanks! I'll do that. Splitting it with a knife I could see that eventually being an issue. Will just drill a hole for the wire. I think I plan on going through the passenger side as someone else suggested so I can tap into the black connector in the passenger kick panel and have the tailgate unlock with the passenger doors as I would prefer that.

I'm sure I'm late on this but I ran mine through the passenger side under the hood. Then wired it to the passenger door lock. This way the gate doesn't unlock unless you hit the button twice. This also keeps you from going in the bottom of your cab. This video shows it. http://youtu.be/KyzdTEV_sBI

Toyota really should have made this a standard feature with a 3rd button on the remote like an suv lift gate. I guess they can't think of everything.

Here is where I ran it. Use a coat hanger to run the wire through the foam on the other side of the firewall. image.jpg

Agree, I don't get it, its a mid size truck, its not a freaking king ranch f150, mid size truck thats meant to be simple, easy to modify to off road, if you want luxury go full size, you can't not have all the frills without the price.

Exactly. People tout the Toyota reliability. But they keep wanting to add pointless crap to it. Do we really need power tailgate locks, power sliding Windows, etc

Nope, I'd rather have simplicity, from a wrenching stand point, price stand point and reliability long term.

When you forget to lock your tailgate with your key and someone steals it....you may think differently. My stolen tailgate was $2000 to replace (per insurance). You bet I really need the power lock.

Well at least the tailgate power lock is a 2017 option for around $250.
