JUST want to say THANK YOU to Speed Freek for the awesome spark plug change-out today, with almost no advance notice on my part. I was just lucky!

I picked up 6 new NGK plugs from O'Reilly and in less than an hour Speed Freek had the old ones out and the new ones in, gapped and thread compound treated. Jason also did a safety check of my Tacoma before it returns to the Wilds of Baja California for yet another Mexican adventure!

On another matter... I am getting a CB to communicate with others on a caravan, and need to use an SWR Meter to tune the antenna... short of buying one for a one time use, is there anyone in San Marcos or Vista area with one that I can use for a few minutes, after I get the CB?
    Just PM me, Thank you!

The Baja 1000 is in November, starts just 70 miles south! Help out at a pit, checkpoint, or just watch them zip by and enjoy camping under the stars! www.score-international.com

So I'm about ready to start the install of my triple battery system.. anyone in San Diego have tools to cut and crimp the thick positive/negative lines (8-gauge) from my primary battery back to my bed?

Table vice and a small socket will crimp it perfect!
Edit: unless you cant get it to a table and need a mobile way, a vice grip can work in that case..

You might want to do some research first because I really don't think that 8 gauge is sufficient. Most folks use 1/0 GA...

Where are you located ? I have a set of hydraulic crimpers.

Missed that part, yeah 8 gauge is way to small, do some research on how many amps you need and look at a chart like this

...and if you have a winch keep it connected directly to the battery that is closest to it. A winch draws 300+ amps during a loaded pull, that will roast inadequate cable in a heart beat.

You also need to do some research around adequate grounding and upgrading all of your OE alternator power, and OE grounds. Your entire OE system is designed for covering one OE battery located 3 ft from the alternator. A lot of folks have cooked wires doing this wrong, you might want to dive into the expo thread to get more advice too. Just to be super clear - you're looking at a fire if you do this wrong.

8 gauge for 3 batteries too lol. Might as well use 18 gauge.

Oh dang missed the gauge selection completely, I hope ya like REALLY REALLY HOT wires, lol.
    The bigger the better!

I like to use the garden hose analogy...think of it like this:

The size of the hose is what causes resistance, garden hose 3/4" vs. 3" firehose...resistance causes heat, so too small causes heat as amperage increases..(imagine if the water created friction the more you put through it)

The voltage is the Pressure at which the hose is seeing. (30psi)

The amperage is how much is coming through the hose (30 gallons per minute)

Use the largest wire you can, if using a winch, wire it directly to the battery with the shortest cables possible!
You cant use a wire thats too big but you certainly can use a wire thats too small, always err on the side of caution..hope this helps anybody that has any confusion about how electricity works, or hell I dunno, maybe I just made it even more confusing, haha.
