Seems like mine has the shimmy/slip/shudder only when accelerating with the AC on. It doesn't have the same symptoms with the AC off or while it's in ECT mode.

Do you guys only have the problem with the AC on?

After getting this done recently I'm am overly extatic on the difference it has made. Driving experience is top notch and MPG is up too

David3821. I have not tried without ac. Will give it a try and update. Has been hot here in SC lately. ECT does make it better. Would be nice if you did not have to enable every time you start.

Got the truck back. LCA holes plugged. Adios Airwolf . Zero improvement on the upshift/downshifting on hills. I leave for Myrtle Beach on Monday. We'll see if the CC issue is gone after that 8hr drive. Fingers crossed.

For those who feel the update has helped their trucks, how's it shifting at highway speeds up slight inclines? On my second road trip with the Tacoma, Dallas to Hot Springs AR. The trip is all flat interstate up until you exit then it becomes mountainous.

I noticed on the slight interstate hills, with cruise on, the trans would immediately downshift to 5th then usually drop down to 4th before cresting. These are gradual inclines that I would normally expect a car to stay in 6th for. No need to drop all the way to 4th.

Once we got into the mountains, I had to keep it in 4th because it would not get out of 6th. No cruise. The only way to keep her in the right gear in D would have been to constantly floor the peddle.

MPG was slightly over 20 cruising between 70-75. Feel it should be a bit higher but I only have a little over 1,000 miles on it.

Too early to tell for long road trips, but I'll do updates in a few thousand miles after this update.

Cruising for me pre update I was getting 19mpg at 70mph with the V6 off road. Higher than 70 I would get a steady decline in mpg. Mostly flat Florida roads with the occasional overpass that caused it to shift like crazy on cruise.

Has any members here from San Diego taken there Taco to Toyota of El Cajon for the update? My six months is coming up and things will probably go smoother if they already have done it for TW members. Thanks!

Finally got the full deal today when I took my September 2015 build in for 10K service. Included: 1) updated ECU; 2) TSB-0077-16 software update; and, 3) transmission fluid level check. My 4x4 OR with towing package/transmission cooler was only 0.5 quarts low.

I asked for transmission fluid check at 5K but was rebuffed. Told unless I was experiencing problems, there was no need. That's kinda like asking your doc to check your cholesterol levels and him telling you don't bother until you have a heart attack.

Can't really discern a performance improvement, but noted that highway fuel efficiency seems 1-2 mpg lower. Should I expect that to smooth out?

Mine dropped 1 mpg. Mine is 95% or more in city 25-35-45 mph with a ton of traffic lights. Put a K & N cai on it hoping to regain that lost mpg. Can't complain still avg over 19 mpg city. Be a while before another road trip. Last trip pre-TSB I did get 24 mpg from Va coast to the mountains avg 72 mph.

3 weeks (500 miles) since transmission TSB was performed. Details of before and after:
    BEFORE TSB-
Lag from reverse to drive. Very bad on inclines
'Hunting" for 5th to 6th on freeway anytime a slight incline is encountered
"Hunting" for next highest gear when driving in city
2nd to 3rd gear shift flare when cold
Slow downshift and lugging without heavy pressure on accelerator pedal when going up a hill.
Low rpm driveline shudder in 6th when rpm is around 1300
Erratic downshifts when descending a hill
Hard and late downshifts when braking
Overall inconsistent shift performance from day to day
Combined 50/50 mileage at 20.5-21.5, max freeway mileage at 26

    AFTER TSB-
Lag is gone from reverse to drive, even on inclines
Still "hunts" for 6th gear on freeway inclines, however the time in 5th gear prior to shifting is longer
Longer time in each gear in city driving
    Shift flare is gone
Stays longer in gear when driving up a hill, still some gear hunting
Low rpm shudder in 6th is still present, maybe a 50% reduction
Less erratic downshifts in descending hills but not completely gone
Downshifts are earlier when braking. Hard downshifts are gone
Still some inconsistencies from day to day 50% improvement
Combined 50/50 and freeway mileage -No Change

Overall I would say that the TSB is a 50-60% improvement, so far.

Yep. About 2 weeks ago. They did it no questions asked and didn't even test drive it to check for issues first.

Who else thinks the TSB was planned from the get-go so Toyota could appease the EPA Gods? Didn't all of this nonsense happen with the gen 2 a decade ago?

Scheduled my truck to get the TSB on Friday. Dealership service dept was pretty busy & said they'd have to keep the truck for the day to verify the issues (Park-Drive/Reverse-Drive Delay & Delayed CC upshift). Verify they did..noticed mileage was up 26 miles so they must've gone on the highway for cruise control testing. They didn't manually check transmission fluids as requested, but at least I got the TSB sticker. They also performed my first 5k green service even tho I was just over 3k. Truck is driving smoother and initial MPGs seem to be up, so things are trending towards the positive at the moment.

I had the TSB done a few weeks ago. I want to make sure that they applied the sticker. Is it under the hood?

Update on tsb done last Wednesday. I seen the master tech with laptop in the cab of my truck and seen him drive it out after 15 or 20 minutes. Paper work also said it was done. Looked for sticker and don't see one. I am sure he did it though. Assessment after driving this weekend. I think 6th gear is basically useless at freeway speeds over 68 - 70 mph. It just can't hold 6th gear at higher speed unless going on a decline. I am adding a afe cai as soon as it arrives. Not expecting much but just maybe a few more hp might help this issue at highwy speeds. If not, it needs to be regeared! Don't know if there is aftermarket 4.56 for the 3rd. Gens yet. Shame on Toyota for a huge failure in R&D and releasing this debokle on us loyal Tacoma fans!
