So I've been searching the forum for a while now and either I am missing it or no one has replaced their 2016 JBL head unit using an iDatalink maestro. What I was looking for exactly was if the new headunit would keep all of the vehicle settings, and more importantly would I be able to change the vehicle setting such as light time out, door lock setting, etc. I tested this concept with an old system I pulled from a mustang I traded for the tacoma. This was strictly for proof of concept. It appears that all the functions are retained with the maestro. All steering wheel buttons worked, setting were accessible, backup camera worked, and now there were gauges added. I didn't test for long, as I said this was strictly proof of concept. Here are some pics of the pieces I used. Also note there was no modification to the truck, this was all plug and play. IMG_0157.jpgIMG_0164.jpg IMG_0158.jpgIMG_0154.jpg

By showing me proof of concept that I can ditch the lowly Entune Plus and use a real aftermarket radio so now I will probably spend the money to do it.

Well then I retract this thread. It worked like crap and you don't want it....

The whole reason of the install was I can't stand the Entune OS. I've also have the rebooting radio issue that Toyota "can't duplicate" Surprisingly it was a pretty easy install and with the exception of the maintenance menu most all the functions were there.

As long as the vehicle controls (locks, drl, etc.) work and the backup camera, the rest is gravy. I have and always will dislike OEM bass contour adjustments on factory radios to keep people from blowing speakers. Ruins the sound.

I have all of the parts laid out. I have tore out my Entune POS. I looked for anybody, ANYBODY online who had replaced their OEM stereo on a 2016. There was nobody. And now this.
I'm glad that you started this thread. Thank you.
And good looking out, BlazingTaco for the heads up.

    @Junglefighter

Glad my post helped. Keep in mind that YMMV with each headunit manufacture. From what I understand Kenwood and Alpine support vehicle integration really well, pioneer on there other hand does not. I plan on getting a pioneer AVIC-8200NEX in a few months, I prefer Pioneer over Kenwood. I kind of want to see how well the integration is on pioneer's newer units.

I already started shopping Pioneer head units. The NEX series seem to work the best but some of the BHS units support some if not most of the vehicle data. Your tinkering gave me hope that I didn't have to go the opposite direction and do something like the Fosgate 360 to add decent sound to this truck, so I thank you.

this really isn't a thing, please stop believing it unless you have tested and proven it. my 2013 and 2014 Entune and Entune Plus output showed completely flat on an oscilloscope. unless they changed things for 2016, it's probably just really crappy speakers.

Nope. Still flat as a pancake. System sounds great once you upgrade everything but the head unit. :)

I don't need to O'scope this POS Entune to know what my professionally tuned ears hear. Past 50 on the knob, the bass starts to disappear. It may just be as simple as the shitty paper cone speakers turning to mush under excursion, although I would have to believe that there would be some distortion associated with that much deflection of the cone which I am not hearing. The statement made about the signal being flat is correct to an extent. But I would describe it as the sound being punchy and almost bass boosted at low volumes and then flat past 50% volume.

I had a Scion xB G2 with the upgraded Pioneer head unit that I experienced the same thing with and it carried through the low level outputs they were nice enough to include on that unit from the factory.

Would I be correct in assuming that the couple of people who are having good experience with the Entune are running aftermaket integration and DSP? If so, yeah, it will sound great. I bet those using LOCs on their factory high level outputs probably have to fight with level settings to get the lower frequencies back past half volume.

I was wondering if you tested this yourself, if so, were you able to test the signals at different volume levels?

I'm planning on running the Fix-86 between the factory hu and amp and would like to maintain the use of the factory volume controls.

Yep. It works like a champ. You really don't even need the Fix-86, although I'm sure it's a really cool piece.

A standard Line Output Converter or an amp with speaker level inputs will work great. Many people on this board have excellent sounding systems that are utilizing the factory deck.

No DSP Here. LOC only and not using any bass boost. Signal is flat all the way through the volume range.

Sorry guys. Just noticed the title of the thread. I'm not running the JBL unit. Entune Audio Premium only (no JBL).

I'm running the lowly Entune Plus with the 6.1" screen. Maybe that's why my stocker sounds so terrible. I should probably upgrade the speakers. I know that just replacing the factory paper cone tweeters with MB Quart Ti tweeters already made a huge difference in clarity. Maybe the paper cone crap speakers really are going full potato at higher volume...

What I miss about a aftermarket stereo is the ability to rewind your xm stations up to an hour. I had a pioneer that would record an hour of your top 6 preset stations. I'm just spoiled like that I guess.

I'd start with an amp, speakers, sub, and line output converter and see what you think. Mine sounds really really good.
