I don't experience those issues, although I couldn't tell you anything about towing. They grip in the wet very well for me and handle mud fine and are great in the snow

Reports like this make me lean back toward Duratracs as I feel they perform better on wet pavement than some other all terrain tires I have tried in the past.

We have thick mud down here, and no snow.

Have you tried Duratracs, if so, how would you compare them to the KO2s

Duratracs wear really fast, that would be my hesitation.

I have the walmart version of the duratrac on my tacoma (goodyear wrangler authority) and they are pretty good in the wet months and are noticeably better with 150 lbs of sand in the bed.

I'm looking at Kumho AT51s for my 4Runner. Trying to keep the cost down as it's just my beater and they have really good reviews

    Thank you.
Looks like more open grabbing space in the middle of the BFG's.
I would think this would help in mud and sand.
I can see why the duratrac wouldn't grab rocks as much.
Also on the outside tread on theBFG's seems to be more numerous per inch as far as the grooves are concerned

I had duratracs on my second gen and they were bad ass. Tread life was low though. I actually accepted the fact that I like the idea of riding trails more than I actually accomplish it so when they needed replacing I replaced them with cooper atp ( I think, it was a discount tire specific model) and they way exceeded my expectations. Had them through a fairly bad snow in NC and had no issues.

    This.

I've run Duratracs and currently K02's. Duratracs were soft...chunked and wore fast and I constantly had balancing issues with them. Otherwise, they were a good tire. I prefer the K02's by far.

Edit: I should state a pro for the Duratracs was the grip.

Yes but siping is better on duratrac which probably why better on wet pavement or in snow/ice

Worst tire ever. They never get the miles near their tread wear warranty, but no one fights it cuz who wants another pair of these, regardless if they are free or not.

I vote Duratrac. And I'm confused since the Jeep Wrsngler world runs the crap out of them and several of my buddies ran them for over 40,000 miles

Everybody has reasons for why they won't run a particular tire. This happened to a guy I was with on a desert run. Duratrac. He finished the day and ran the next on one of my spares. A KO2.
