The wife saw my old Tacoma in a store parking lot as the guy was pulling in. She said I should go over and ask him how it drives.....I respectfully declined....

Realize you're not asking me but I did consider this myself. The more I thought about it, the more it rubbed me the wrong way...the fact that we're putting $500, $600+ down on an exhaust system just in the HOPE that it "troubleshoots" one of our issues. It just doesn't sit right with me. I guess if you were already sold on the idea of a new exhaust system regardless of the vibrations then that's a different story.

I thought about the MagnaFlow early on as a possible fix. Would have cost me $700 in February. After the truck started to rattle, I decided I did not want it back.

Agreed with @smitty99 on this. Just cant see myself spending $600-700 on a potential solution only in the "hopes" that its a silver bullet. I'm just baffled at how this was a design flaw and somehow overlooked during Toyota's test drives of the vehicle.

I'm getting ready to drive cross country for a military move and this will be the litmus test on if I'll entertain the thought of keeping the truck. Really hoping the vibration doesn't cause a safety issue considering its being driven from coast to coast.

Toyota is simply getting lazy. No way around it.

I just bought a used Tacoma with 11,000 miles. Seller got rid of it due to the buzzy engine vibration in the floor and gas pedal (1,600 to 2,300 RPM and especially under load). I got it "cheap" as he couldn't stand the vibration any longer. I am ok with it as this is a second vehicle and will only be used around town, I wouldn't want to drive it more than an hour straight.

I'm not here to complain, but to document another truck affected by this issue and to subscribe so I can apply a fix whenever Toyota (or a vendor) gets around to it.

Just dropped mine off for 2 weeks for repairs due to some fool t-boning me last month.

Rental is a VW Jetta - nice little car. Feels decent power wise & no vibes, no seat wanting
to shake itself off the mounts @ 70+. So smooooooooooth! :D

Would be fine for a local hauler. I was in mine for 2 hours a day and the vibrations were going up my leg to a point where I was numb. It was a safety issue for me.

Drove a brand new 2017 Limited built in Baja this month. Vibration was very strong in the pedal and wheel.

4000 mi. and all is good. Runs great and no vibration at all. If it is exhaust why would some vibrate and not others?

I drove my truck from Virginia to New Jersey couple weekends ago and right at 2000 RPM 75mph I noticed a slight vibration. Thought it was maybe the roads at first but I noticed it a few more times during the trip.

Hopefully we can get a TSB out of this and get it fixed.

Kind of getting annoyed with all of these issues with this truck. I bought this truck for its dependability and reliability. I'm starting to think I made a bad purchase.

It really depends on your driving conditions. People that live in rural towns with the auto transmission that don't make it above 55 mph will probably never experience or notice the buzzing (not saying that's you, just giving an example).

If you get to a speed/gear where the RPMs are holding steady at 2000-2400 RPM, I am almost positive it will be there. I am convinced it is inherent to the design of the truck. It is in mine, many others, and on random ones that I have driven on the dealer lot.

With that said, if you don't notice it, don't go looking for it. It may bug the hell out of you when you find it and you'll never be able to not notice it again.

Did a little net searching and found this on carcomplaints . com

"So where is the vibration coming from? Turns out, Toyota used cheap rubber engine mounts on this $41,000 truck. When the engine breaks in it settles and the vibration comes from the engine shifting between Atkinson and Otto cycles to save fuel. Ironically, Toyota took this engine from the Lexus which uses both electronic and hydraulic engine mounts. Save a few bucks and use rubber…"

    end quote.

    So does this sound legit?

Really wanted to trade in my 10 get a 16 or 17, but with all this BS going on and no repair in sight it seems I'll have to wait to 18. If the 18 still has these problems or no fix for these issue looks like I'll be getting a Colorado:annoyed:

Both the Toyota engineers who checked my truck, and the senior Master Mechanic at my dealership said something similar to me (the engineers said it off the record) about the difference in the engine mounts between the Taco and the Lexus. The Master Mechanic said they were 'junk' compared to the Lexus ones. He also checked and said the Lexus mounts for their 3.5 wouldn't work on the Taco due to mounting differences (he was trying to help and checked it out). They also pointed to the solid exhaust manifold in the Taco as opposed to a multi-piece in the Lexus. Neither of them mentioned anything about a shift between the Otto and Atkinson cycles.

If this is true it's a bummer as I was going to head this route if the my truck develops the vibration. Lame.
