On Board Water Build....(pic heavy)

Well, I have wanted a good on board water set up for a long time. I had all kinds of ideas, read all kinds of threads here and at expedition portal, and I ended up building the set up below. The water set up itself is done I just have to finish some wiring in the truck now. I decided to go with a mobile set up that I could run in my wall tent as well. I am happy for the most part on how it turned out.
Here are all the supplies:
LCI Water Can
Whale Submersible pump
Shurflo faucet
12v outlet
12v cord
3/8" tubing
wire ties
wire loom
electrical tape
wire connectors
Coffee!

Step 1: Cut the Spout off the Can

Step 2: Notch the white base on the faucet so you can run the wires outside of the water can. If you don't do this the electrical wires that are not intended to see moisture would end up inside the water can.

Step3: Install Faucet through hole in can and cut 3/8" hose to length so you can connect it to the pump and the faucet.

Step 4: Drill hole 1/4" hole in lid for submersible wires to pass through. Disclaimer: I was planning on using a rubber grommet in this hole to make it a tight water seal. however the thickness of the lid made using a grommet impossible. So, I ended up siliconing around the hole after I drilled it. If I had known the grommet would not fit I would have drilled a smaller hole to make the wire a tighter fit.

Step 5: Run wires through the hole in the lid, cut off the male end of a heavy duty 12v cord, and strip all wire ends.

Step 6: Do a test connection of the wiring to make sure you have it wired correctly. Here is how I did it:
Faucet Blue A to Pump Blue
Faucet Blue B to 12V positive
Pump Brown to 12v negative

Step 7: Make final wire connections, place all wire in wire loom, wrap with electrical tape and test!

There is the water!

 

The next step is to install a 12v outlet in the bed of my truck. This outlet will be switched off of my auxiliary fuse block and switch panel (build here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wiring-an-aux-fuse-block-relays-and-switches-in-a-2016.401253/ ). It will be switched so i can control when the on board water is operational. This will help with accidental activation's of the pump.

Since I have the auxiliary fuse block, switch panel and relays installed already, all I need to do is run the wires from an open relay, to the 12v outlet location and mount the outlet. I'll update picks when that is complete.

$150 or so. I had the remaining parts on hand. If you have a water can to convert already then that would save 1/3 of the cost. But those LCI water cans are the real deal, super heavy duty.

Ive been looking into the same idea. I want to rig an aux fuse block in the bed (Blue Sea 5025) with all the extra electrical draws run through that. The plan is to make it a simple one wire change to that aux block when I eventually upgrade to a dual battery setup.

How do you like that battery pack? I'm looking at building one for with my old battery.

 

I just bought the battery box. Haven't used it till I tried the water set up. Seems pretty slick. I plan on using it to run the water jug and charge cell phones and tablets in our wall tent. It will be in use for 2 weeks in September. I'll report back later.
