Undercover does not make the "classic" for the 2016 Tacoma.

The source is a photo of a supposed briefing sheet given to dealers. I think I saw it posted on this forum somewhere (getting old sucks) but I found this one below. Don't know if it is true or not.

Mythbusters did an episode on it. I think than ran Ford F250's to test it. They found best MPG with no tonneau and tailgate up. In a wind-tunnel they found that the tailgate up created a circular vortex in the bed that caused reduced drag. But that was for one specific model of truck.

I know I got+2mpg highway in my 1996 Extended Cab S-10, didn't make a difference either way in my 2002 Crew Cab Sonoma. And it hasn't seemed to impact MGP either way on my Tacoma.

Exactly I've read a few studies on it that the bed creates a steady air mass.

Thanks. That's unfortunate. I like to basic look the most.

Yeah it is nice and flat on top. Only thing I don't like about it is it has 2 locks/latch's.

I find my truck handles better on the hwy with a tonneau cover --- I don't feel wind gusts grabbing it.

As far as a mileage increase/decrease --- I'm not seeing any major difference after installing an Extang Trifold.

I've when with the BAK on my 03 and my 16. I went with the MX4. I bought it from truck alterations in North Carolina. Paid $695 for it. Easy to install and the cover works great. Can't go wrong with this cover.

I thought myth busters did a episode on it as well and it was busted. Tailgate down etc.
I saw a small mpg gain when I got mine on my 2nd gen. I haven't installed yet on my Terd gen.

I have seen a couple of them on the '16... Look through this thread and I know there are other threads with covers...

I've only noticed one post on this site about the Diamondback covers. I like the ability of storage on top of cover, even with the SE model, but doesn't seem like many people running the Diamondback.

Probably can't afford them. I'm wanting a tonneau on my truck but the only way I can do it is borrow from the bank. I'm making the last payment on my truck 1st of next month so I just may go see my banker lady. :)

I'm with you, I really like the diamondback, especially because easily removeable and heavy duty. But it will be a while, they're kinda pricey.

I actually have both at the moment (not simultaneously installed obviously!)

    both have pros and cons.

The SF 2.0 is lighter and much easier to manage, but not as secure as OEM. That didn't bother me, as I don't usually have anything in the bed.

The OEM is way over engineered and probably a bit 'tougher' if you like to put stuff on top of the cover while loading/unloading.

Again, both are good. I found both to be the same in regards to water proofing. If I use a high pressure nozzle, I can still get a little bit of water in the bed.
