I would suggest 35s and armor. A winch is helpful for sure. Last year I needed to winch once in old sluice and once by $1000 hill next to little sluice but that was because it was raining. Front locker would probably help get you through the hard stuff without needing a winch.

Because of our good winter the trail is considerably harder this year than last.

I hear that there is always more than one way over/past an obstacle, kind of like an easier way for vehicles that aren't all lifted to hell. is this true?

It's funny to me when I think about how I live in the Reno/Carson/Tahoe area, yet I know the dirt roads and trails east of Winnemucca far better than anything I know here at home. Guess it's time to get out and do some exploring here for a change :mudding::rolleyes:

Mostly true. You can skip little sluice by taking $1000 hill (or whatever it's called) though the hill is still hard if you're running the trail east to west. Coming out of Rubicon springs, unless there is a complete bypass that I'm not aware of, you have to go through old/big sluice which is pretty gnarly. By far the toughest thing I've put the taco through. I probably could have avoided body damage if I was a better driver and didn't get the truck in the f'd spot that I did to be honest. I'll dig up the pics of my sliders to emphasize the point :)

The rest of the trail is hard but easily doable in an equipped rig.

It's a hoot for sure but as I was pulling into Georgetown I looked at my buddy and told him I'd never run that shit again in an IFS truck.

My Rubicon rig is still under construction but here are some peeps that are looking to do it Sept 10th. I'll be stalking antelope that week so I can't join in (and the 85 isn't done).

They graded the road up from Verdi to the staging area at the beginning of the summer. It used to be extremely rocky going up. Bad news is now there are tons of people up there in cars everyday because it's so smooth.

I don't know if they're officially a club, but I've seen some posts on Twitter and such from Reno 4x4. Might be worth looking into.

I lurk around there a lot because I have a few friends on there but I haven't actually seen an Overlanding club/group in this area. Someone should start one, I think it would be fun.

There's no real overlanding 'club' in the area, moreso several guys that enjoy that sort of thing and get out on trips whenever possible.
I have a buddy down in Vegas that runs an overlanding page, check out OverlandingUSA on FB and Instagram. They mostly stay down that way, but do get out into the sierras a bit I believe. That and going to meets/mod days and making buddies with others from the area is my recommendation to finding a group of people to go out with.
Also, post a pic of your rig @xxmagpulxx I've seen a few Blazing blue '16s out and about in the area, the color is growing to be one of my favorites when done up with black painted mods/accessories.

Speaking of posting pics, why is it that I can never find anyone from the Reno area actually out in the real world? Are you all too busy either wheeling in the middle of nowhere or staying at home lurking on TW or something? Not that I'd know anything about lurking at all... :anonymous:
