Pretty sure a lift and huge tires aren't going to help power at high speeds.

I'll admit this truck ain't perfect, nothing is, but regear should have been the first thing you should have done. You've taken the drivetrain and redesigned it and you blame Toyota for the bad design. C'mon man?! And a CAI ain't gonna do squat for you (or anyone, except lighten your wallet). Put the money toward some gears.

Yep! You are all correct! I am more trying to address the people that have done nothing and are having the same issue!

Last week I took my DCSB Auto Limited in to Gresham Toyota for the 10K service and to check Tranny fluid and the TSB for shifting enhancements. I was extremely pleased with the service from Gresham Toyota (Carson was service rep). Tranny fluid was 1/2 low and filled. Master Tech and went for drive prior and he verified Tranny was exhibiting some of the symptoms to qualify for the Flash. They did the flash and I have now put maybe 100 miles on the truck and can attest to improvements. I'm happy now!

So my Dad bought a 2016 GMC SierraDenali Duramax last month. I drove it part of the way to New Mexico from Wyoming and back over the weekend. I can attest that the engine is powerful but just like the Tacoma, you gotta dig deep into the pedal travel to get power. The turbo takes a bit to kick in too. Definitely an impressive engine but from a dead stop the truck is not a rocket. Partly because it weighs 6500 lbs. My old Tacoma feels like it is connected directly to the rear wheels with instant pull. That being said I think this is the new normal for trucks and cars. I think people are expecting a lot from this new Tacoma. I do think the 2016 Tacoma feels quicker though, and it should be since gas engines generally accelerate faster.

As I've said in the past. Had my 2016 DCLB Sport 0-60 tested by a friend who does track testing for a variety of Truck/Car magazine. Tested my 2016 5 times with a average time of 6.6. 2016 was tested officially by Many truck and car magazines consistently at 6.8. 2nd Gen never tested better than 7.2. The 2016 is not a dog....

I think it's because it's new and some aren't used to it. The power band is higher than before. It will shit-n-git when you open it up!

Out of curiosity, do you know if 0-60 was tested in D with ECT turned off? I always wonder with so many modes cars have these days what their baseline test uses.

I wound not say this truck is a dog with the pedal mashed down on a 0-60 run. It's that lifelessness between 0-40 in normal driving I believe people are having an issue with.

One thing I also noticed with newer trucksis that handling/NVH/and ride are so refined that you feel like you are going slower than you actually are. In that Duramax I would look down and see I was going 90 mph but it felt like I was going 60 mph. If I am going 80 mph in my 2002 Tacoma I feel like the truck is either going flip over with the slightest tug on the wheel or the truck is going disintegrate into a million pieces.

Accompanied my brother over the weekend as he went to the dealer to purchase his Tacoma TRD Sport DBCBSB. I had the TSB PDF in hand and I insisted that they did the software update on it before my brother drove it off the lot. The truck had a build date of 7/16 and my brother was not aware of this TSB so I had to educate him on it. Now, I have driven just about every configuration of the Tacoma except for the pro and I was lucky enough to be able to keep each one for a few days. All of the models felt different in ride and etc but what was constant was the hunting and pecking of the transmission and the surging of it when pulling in and out of the garage. Of course the service dept did not want to perform the update on a brand new truck and insisted that it be driven some and only brought back when at least one of the symptoms was experienced. Well when the purchase of the vehicle hinged on this update, lets just say their hand was forced. I noticed the difference immediately. I am placing my order in 2 weeks but now if I could only decide if I want the SB or LB!

To the "CAI ain't gonna do squat" I beg to differ. My stock truck performance was much improved after the TSB. Then I felt the $200 investment in a K & N would be worth the risk. I can say, particularly at highway speeds, between 45 and 70, the passing acceleration is GREATLY improved over the stock intake. The mpg's have crept back up to pre-TSB averages. They dropped 1 mpg and I have regained .5 mpg with the CAI. The down side is that it is loud when you put the pedal down. What sounds like a 40 hp gain is really just a loud 12+/- hp gain. I can feel it in daily city driving but the real gain is at higher speeds. I am a fan of gears. When I was a kid we welded spider gears for cheap street racing posi-traction. We ran our fuel lines through poorly fabricated igloo iced coolers. We put 850 Holleys on anything. We would put a 430 gear in a Grandma Ford LTD machine and freak people out with the 1/4 mile speed. All that said for a cheap easy slight power gain the CAI is worth the money. It compliments the transmission update.

12+/- hp gain. is that from your dyno test? or mfg claim?
also can you give a link to the intake you used.
im thinking about having the TSB done

I totally agree with you. I had the tsb done and then bought the k and n for 199. The performance difference is noticeable and so is the noise. lol

That is my guesstimate. I think K & N quotes 17 hp at 5000 rpm. I got mine through autoanything with a $50 instant discount. Might have been 20% off. Can't remember. Just making the point that you can feel a difference. Not huge but enough to notice. I imagine a better exhaust would net you the max performance in combination with a CAI.
I would like to add one thing. These trucks have been on the road a year now. WHERE ARE THE TUNER PROGRAMS ?

Thanks for a little optimism bud! Like I said, not expecting a lot, but it might not take a lot! Every little bit helps. Air dam back on, noticed a little, magnaflow cat back, noticed a littlittle, Tsb, noticed a little. Switched from 315's to 285 light weight Toyo open Country, noticed! If the afe cai helps a little more, that would be great! Don't know inless I try, and there is no fun in not trying! By the way, I don't see gears available yet. And I love my truck, just don't know if Toyota got this new transmission right. By the way, this is my 12th Toyota bought new, most Tacoma's. Still drive the 2011 everyday, and still use the 1990!

Have another 2016 that was over 1quart low on transmission fluid. They did the update to the transmission and it's a totally different truck. Oh and the fun button(ECT) works fantastic. This is how the truck should of been delivered. And the mileage is the same
