Undo the TSB

I started a poll for longer term feedback .... probably get flamed for redundant thread. If you guys want I can delete it.

By RPM/cruise I mean I had the cruise set at 45-50 mph, elevation only slightly increased and it downshifted and stayed at 4000ishrpm for quite a good distance before shifting back up. This was done on your basic asphalt roadway...yes it is obviously worse at higher speeds and on steeper inclines, however it still has issues even on slight increases of elevation at lower speeds. I have driven previous vehicles on the same road doing around the same speed and never had the RPMs act that way.

 

I'll wait to respond after I get 1.5-2k on the truck. In the meantime I'm avoiding S mode and ECT so I won't corrupt /confuse the learning process.

What are the rest of you are doing during the relearning time frame? Babying the truck, driving like you normally do or just mashing the gas and doing S, D, in both ECT modes and trying for burnouts?

 

Were those vehicles 6 speeds with two overdrives?

Try S5 at that speed and see what it does, sounds like 45-50 might be right between 4th and 5th like most other 5 speeds.

What does it do at 55?

Yeah they were both 5 speeds, (97 4runner, 08 Tacoma). Not sure about 55, I feel like it does pretty good except for the obvious steep inclines. I'll try to look at that a little closer.

 

Why? The TSB doesn't address any of that or any part of the AI function. The truck should drive the same before/after the TSB except for the 3 items it was intended to address

FFS why is this so hard for people to understand?

 

My truck, I'll drive it as I see fit. It's how I broke in the transmission the first time and was pleased with the results, only had the R to D delay so I don't see any reason to change MY method for MY truck.

FFS take a breather and worry about your own damn truck.

Originally, I wasnt very impressed with the TSB update. I even called the dealership twice and wound up talking to the master tech because I wasnt convinced I got the TSB update as opposed to just a reflash.

Now, I have put 800 miles on my truck sonce the TSB update and am seeing the results of positive changes. I wasnt unhappy before the update. I can feel a bit more wind up in the shift range, holding 5th and 6th gear a bit longer, (cruise control is a non issue for me), and my mpg's have now gone up. Today, I averaged 24.8 mpg's in a mix of 4 lane highway at 60-65 mph for about 12 miles. It wasnt downhill, either. It was pretty flat with a few small hills. I know that is trip average and an estimation, but it's higher than it was before the update. Ive been getting 1-2 mpg's better since getting more miles after the update. I do think it has to do with resetting the ECT.

Edit: I didnt have P to R to D delays, but I do have a light surge that isnt alarming.

I would go to Toyota.com and click on the "owner's" link in the top right corner. If you have not opened a account you will need to do that. All the things done by the dealership service dept. will be listed there.

They may not of done anything to your truck..

 

Just completed a driving vacation post TSB. Driving from Baltimore area to Bar Harbor/Swan's Island. Averaged close to 24MPG stock TRD offroad DCSB. No complaints other than the seats are definitely cheap garbage compared to a nice SUV. The shifting wasn't even on my mind. Could not really use the cruise control due to the shitty NJ/NY/CT area drivers. That entire corridor is one rolling dumpster fire. We were even stuck in one for several hours in the hellscape that is I78 after a truck carrying some kind of military cargo caught fire.

 

OP, I regretted the TSB almost immediately as the shifting seemed to have reverted to the crap it was originally. I thought maybe they just reset the ECU and didn't change anything.

After cringing with each launch for a week or two, now I've got 700 miles on the TSB and it does seem better than before. It isn't upshifting too soon like it did originally. I used to have to game the throttle to get shifts when I wanted them. Now the default shift points feel about right and I can drive it almost like a normal modern vehicle (finally). I'm thinking this is going to be a net improvement since I'm cringing less with each mile.

The seats in the Tacoma seem to be a common object of love or hate.

 

That was pretty much my experience, too. I didnt think I got the TSB at first. What I believe I experienced was the ECT being reset and hd to relearn my driving. After about 700 miles, mine has done fine. I think there are maybe a couple fine tuning issues they 'could' do, but Im happy with mine the way it is. I wasnt unhappy before the TSB, either, but I do think the TSB was a positive update.

 

I don't care for mine at all honestly. My 11 seats were way more comfortable. These actually make my right leg hurt often where the edge of the seat pushes up against the back of my leg. That's off topic though.

Got the tsb done a few weeks back. Much better now that I've got some miles on it. No more cruise control gear hang and no delay from R - D.

 

That is how the 2015 Chevy Colorado done. No problems with the '16 Tacoma. I'm 5'10" tall just to add some information.

 

Yeah my father in law had a 16 Calorado for about three months. The seats weren't all that great in there either. He traded to another Silverado for other reasons though. I though about adding a small spacer in mine to see if I can just adjust the angle of how my legs rest.

 

I don't understand how you can't understand that every software change affects multiple systems. Welcome to the computer world.
