Whats up everyone, I am new to this forum and I know there is a New Members thread, however I have a question to ask as well so I figured I would combine my intro and question on here! Quick intro, my names Joe, I am a student at Ohio State and Army vet (11B and then reclass to 91B - wheeled vehicle mechanic not medic, people always ask.) I live in Columbus and just purchased my first Tacoma about a week ago (queue the Bobby Schmurda lol). I got a good deal on it but I do think there is something odd going on with the clutch or a sensor of some sort, maybe the throttle body, idk... When the truck is at a stop or going very slow (rpms around 1000) and I push the clutch all the way in, the RPMs drop down significantly, often times the truck will stall, sometimes it doesnt. ALSO, the really odd thing - sometimes when I am driving on the highway or above 55 and I shift it into nuetral the RPms shoot up to 3000 and hold there for a couple seconds, then it dips down to normal idle rpms. Talked to my mechanic buddy and he said he has never encountered that. Anyone have any idears?? Please and thanks, Go Bucks and I love the site!
    Oh also, its the 05 SR5 4 banger 4x4
    - Joe

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Might be a vacuum leak or possibly the TPS. Look at all you vacuum hoses for cracks or splits. For the TPS, you can pump the gas pedal about 100 times fast (complete stroke - to the floor and back) with the truck off. The throttle body might need a good cleaning too. How many miles are on it?

    Just a starting point.

96,322! Thanks for your input, now what will the stroking of the gas pedal do?

Honestly, I think it cleans the contacts in the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

3k revs are higher than normal. It usually hangs just under 2k, then falls.

That being said, what maintenance have you done at this point?

    Hooah!

Had the battery been disconnected recently, prior to you starting this thread? Is it still doing the high idle hang?

If so, I am with 98tacoma. Probably a vacuum leak. Spraying something flammable around the engine bay could point you to your vacuum source.
