How cheap can you go to NYC

I go to school in NY state and want to take me and my girlfriend up to NYC but don't have a lot of spend.

How cheap can I do it?

We want to stay one night, you only have to be 18 to book a hotel right?

What is there cheap to do?

I probably have about $400 to spend.

eating and transport will rob u. Between riding the fairy witch i highly recommend and taxis add up and food is not cheap there in-fact not much is, except a time square rolex if you get what i am saying.

Thanks but I've already done that stuff. I'm looking for suggestions.

Like driving for example as apposed to paying $250 to take a bus. Probably $100 in gas and $60 to park I have found and then taking taxis and buses around.

how bout riding the rails? takes you to grand central, and times square is a 2 minute walk from there.

I went to battery park...but that was the summer. Didnt get to spend to much time downtown. I was mostly in Nyack the whole time

stay in White Plains where I live, cheaper hotels and its a 25 min ($12) train ride into Grand Central.

what i usually do is use a site like travelocity, you should be able to get a nice room in manhatten for less than 100 bucks. Ask around for cheap food, it's there. We usually drive to croton or some suburb and take the train in, drops you right at grand central station, you should see that, its pretty amazing. You can do the tourist thing on the cheap, central park, the met, and that kinda stuff, a broadway show is the epitomy of the ny exp imo, but kinda pricey. hope you have a good time, i love it

and theres lil pizza joints everywhere. heck, any kinda food you want, its there.

 

theres SOOOOOO many...just walk around the lower east side/west village (cornelia st. in particular) and check out the menus - they're all on display outside so you can see the prices. ive eaten in a ton of them and never had a bad dinner.

 

if you guys are adventurous, learn and use the subway, it will take you everywhere you wanna go.
if you guys want the italian food exp, that would be little italy in the bronx on arthur avenue, and it's next to the famous bronx zoo

 

Agreed, the subway is fun, and safe. The subway map is easy to understand. New Yorkers are friendlier than they were years ago, just look lost and ask for help if you need it. The MTA sells unlimited passes, one-day, three day, etc. best deal in town.

Before Giuliani cleaned up the city, you used to have to worry about where the subway would take you, but every area of manhattan is safe nowadays. Times square used to be the anus of the earth, now it’s more like Downtown Disney.
