Been about a month into owning my (new to me) 2011 TRD Sport and I've already put some amber LED lights in on the inside which brightened things up a ton, replaced old rusty tailgate cables, put a new battery clamp on thanks to Coupe and put a black Toyota emblem on the front thanks to Swank.

My question is, what is some needed but basic things I should replace or look at? Or what are some recommended mods to get, excluding lifts and things like that. It's at 95k miles if that helps. I do want to replace the bolts around the tailgate on the bed next.

It all depends on your individual goals for the truck but some simple ideas to start with are making sure maintenance is up to date and then look at some easy yet functional mods such as a bed mat and tailgate reinforcement.

Good luck, have fun and welcome!

A little of this and a little of that.

    Welcome to TW.

I second the info posted by buzzkill911.
If you don't know the maintenance history, check and make sure the fluids, filters, spark plugs have been replaced, if not do so as you have time/money. Otherwise, mod it to your liking and enjoy!

Console divider is a great and cheap mod. Husky liners are a must for me as well as the bed mat.

Oh yeah, console divider and aftermarket floor mats were two of my first interior upgrades too.

Some other things that come to mind are the rear diff breather relocate mod, maybe treat the frame yourself since you're in snow country, install a tonneau cover or cap and trim/remove/replace the mud flaps. Some cost more money than others but all fun stuff to do while tinkering with your new ride.

Diff breather mod is one of my next mods as well as a 400 watt inverter. I did trim 6" off front and rear flaps which took the 4×4 logo off.:spy:

definitely trim the front mud flaps if you will be doing ANY offroading, they sit low and will drag.

Late reply back to this but I went down a simple to moderate trail to a place where used to go a while ago in my jeep and the flaps took a beating because they are so long. The 4x4 logo really just states that it is 4 wheel drive correct? I know the newer sports have 4x4 on the emblem on the bed. Doesn't really matter in general but would there be a big difference if I just simply took them all off?

I took my flaps off years ago and my paint job is regretting it now with all of the chips and dings from rocks/road debris. I ended up getting Rock BLockz that are more flexible.

I bought mine at 97k here is what I did

Changed rear diff fluid, tranny fluid (6spd), transfer case fluid, front diff fluid.
changed oil/filter (used OEM toyota filter)
    changed spark plugs
    flushed coolant
    changed air filter
    changed cabin filter
    flushed brake fluid
    greased ujoints

replaced the ghetto HID's the previous owner put in with factory bulbs to have high beams again.

checked front brake rotors/pads, rear brake drums/shoes, adjusted emergency brake
    checked carrier bearing for slop
    checked ball joints
    checked wheel bearings.

shouldn't take more than a few hours to get through all of that and some good insurance knowing the condition of the fluids since you dont know the history of the truck.

Take them off if you like, I just wanted to keep mine to help with rock chips and such but hated how long they were is all.

I'll probably cut them soon going from what you and white91 said. Up here in Western MA, roadwork is considered a season so rocks and gravel are an all time time thing ha
