2017 is the exact same truck and does not even have some of the most basic issues addressed yet (like howling Lower Control arms)

I don't understand how Toyota can deem a roar as normal. If replacing wear and tear parts like tires does not solve the issue, then it's mechanical. That's unfortunate.

Indeed yes. But perhaps they've procured better components to alleviate issues. One would never know, I suppose, but that's the only theory I can think of that lends credence to the 1st year redesign saying.

No it was easy really. I bought mine in March and the first 100 or so miles I had no issues. After that, the rear end started to howl like a wolf and I had the rumble vibration. After owning it 12 days, I scheduled it for a checkup and the service manager went for a ride. He was shocked at how loud it was at 450 miles, so they kept it. I in the meantime, called Toyo Corp and opened a case. A few days later the service manager called and said they were ordering a new rear diff to replace the failed one. They even had a field tech check it out. Later that afternoon, Toyo Corp called to tell me the same thing and follow up. I told them in a nice & pleasant way that this was my first new Toyota, and that I was disappointed to be without my truck for so long (took 3 weeks total). They asked what would make me happy? I told them the 7 year 100K warranty (because I didn't realize they did 8yr/125K or I would have asked for that) and $$$ credit for Toyo accessories, because I had a truck in the shop and was without a ride before I even licensed it or made a payment.

Two days later, Toyo Corp called and confirmed everything with the dealer doing the repair, requested I fax a copy of my loan statement, refunded my first payment and sent me the warranty info.

Long story short, I was told my rear diff basically had about a cup of gear lube in it, which is why it failed so quickly. I know a lot of us have the rear whine, which I also have on this second one, but I'm hear to tell you that the whine I had initially was like an old 60 Ford 3/4 ton with 5.88 gears. It was undeniably loud, crazy loud. I can deal with the 'feather whine." :)

So, I think under the circumstances, they should be willing to offer you some compensation. I'll drive this thing for 7yr or 100K and not worry about it cause it's covered and I feel good about that. Plus, the service manager and I pretty much respect and appreciate each other. I never got mad or blew my top, just stated things in a nice, professional manner and they did they same in return. It never hurts to ask.

BTW, I had been down this road once before with my wife's Chevy Cruze a couple years ago. I did not handle that well, pretty much the exact opposite of this Toyota deal, and it made it really hard for everyone involved to work with towards a common goal. Several times I looked like an ass and stressed way more than I should have because my jerky attitude gave them a reason to treat me like a jerk too. It was all kinds of messed up, but I got this same deal with Chevy, except I have a 100K bumper to bumper that covers everything and learned a big lesson on how not to act like a 38 yr old baby, but an adult. In both situations, these people didn't build either vehicle, they just so happened to get stuck fixing it and I came to the realization that they can only do what they can do to help.

I would check your state's lemon law. It may be that you can force the dealership to take the truck back. Obviously, the more you make noise, the better your chances are in the end.

Dealer doesn't take it back in lemon law. Toyota corporate does

Lemon law requires the same problem twice in 12 months, then repeat another 2 times in subsequent 12 months. No help.

BTW, ask for the Platinum Warranty, that's the top level and it's transferable for the future for free.

Yeah like 2017 is totally redesigned? Right.
You have one vehicle owner with a complaint out of 100's of thousand and its panic time.

Thanks. I've been courteous with the service people and field service tech. The salesman I bought from , not quite as much. He's at another dealership not doing the service. Was not pleased with the 5k depreciation in 1 month.

Yeah right. Sounds like a troll post more and more.

Yeah, you have a shot and the sooner the better to get something filed with Toyo Corp. I really think they will do the warranty....it's not worth losing 5K at all.

I ended doing the same thing and it's transferable which will help with re-sale
I was offered the platinum. We took it to another dealer they fixed it. We had been in the shop 5 times and lost the truck for a month. I am happy with it now. The lemon law sounds good but it can be a real pain if you can work something out you will probably be better off.

    That sucks man.
Gather up your work orders and Call Toyota corporate and start a complaint.

Calmly tell the case manager you've lost confidence in the truck due to all the issues (they'll verify).

After a few calls back and forth, it will end in a 7 year/100K Platinum warranty offered to appease you. You might get 8yr/125K.

My truck vibrates, and I expressed my concerns that this will prematurely wear parts (which it will...) They easily offered extended warranty.
I know this won't truly fix your truck, but at least you know you can drive it 7-8 years without worrying about repair cost.

My truck was at the dealership for a month the last time, just less than a 3 weeks after I bought the truck. And the problem (diff leak) started back again and its still back there again, and haven't heard back from them yet. This time it nearly got me into a collision, and stranded me on the road side and made me ride in a tow truck with a really scary big man all the way to the dealership in the late evening. I couldn't walk along the freeway home, and had no other choice.

I was also given the 8/125k warranty platinum like smitty99 the last time,.. and I did tell corporate that I have low confidence in getting into a truck that took them 1 month to fix, but they said unless there's a serious frame issue or brake failure or motor issue they don't take back the truck for a new one. They said, all warrantied parts are just replaced. Anyways, I've called corp again last week and filed a new case, with the same problem as last time.
