Hey guys, new to the forum and new to the Tacoma ownership. I bought an '11 Tacoma almost a month ago and absolutely love it.

I did a bit of searching and couldn't find anything that really answered my question. I want to instill an aftermarket USB input for audio but I want to know if there is a place for it to plug into in the back of my stock head unit? I really don't want to replace the HU because I'm not one for the aftermarket look and I've never been behind one before and don't know how many extra input slots there are.

Also, would this fix the problem of needing to almost max out my car audio and iPod volume to listen to my music at any reasonable level? I've got the access cab so I know I'm running 2 speakers short compared to the 4 door version, but it's still pretty quiet.

    Thanks for the help guys!

    Miles

Welcome to TW.. nice truck, love the Corgi too!
The first one that comes to mind is btw car kits.. it plugs into the CD changer input, and operated through your head units controls.

I almost went with that, but instead decided to upgrade to a pioneer HU. You may can find some more USB inputs on a site like crutchfield.

    Hope that helps!

The stock hu is fairly weak in my opinion. Even the flimsy stock speakers on a crappy single din jvc sounds EXTREMELY better than on the stock radio.

You should post this in the AV forum. Probably get better suggestions.

Can't tell you what's behind the back of the newer factory head units, but I can tell you that with an Access Cab you still have 4 speakers (plus 2 tweeters).

The low volume from the iPod sounds like a different issue.

    Thanks for the input guys!

    Will do

This is what my rear door looks like, is there a speaker in there? There's no "vents" (for a lack of better words), just solid plastic.

That's a new one to me. When the hell did Toyota start cheaping out and not putting speakers in the suicide doors? My '06 had them.

There are aftermarket kits to wire audio into the stock head unit. With the wiring involved you may as well just upgrade the unit as it would be an easier job.

Also, it will not fix the low audio issue. Stock radio sucks big fat balls. Upgrade to aftermarket and it will sound great.
