Mark McGwire is finally confessing ... he used steroids. Duh.

In a carefully written, blame-shifting statement, McGwire said, "I wish I had never touched steroids ... It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era."

McGwire said he took steroids during the 1998 season when he hit 70 home runs, then a record.

    Your move, Bonds.

BLTN (better late than never) Didn't La Russa hire him as the hitting coach for next year? Maybe this is something MLB is making him do to get back into baseball? Come on Bonds, time to fess up!

I could care less if he did steroids, but I hope he goes to prison for lying to Congress. I know if I lied to Congress, I'd be watching my backside when picking up the soap.

Of course, most of Congress should go to jail for lying to Congress, but that's another issue.

My name is on the Mark McQwire sidewalk outside the new Cards stadium. He was my idol too.....until it became obvious he was a foul stinking liar that refused to fess up with braver men and continued the lie FOR A DECADE. Now.....he's "confessing" ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS A CONDITION OF THE CARDS HIRING HIM AS A BATTING COUCH. That, in my opinion, is no confession. He's once again only doing it because it benefit's HIM. Mark McGwire has not earned my forgiveness yet. Let him get it from God, but I still can't stand him. He helped ruin the sport in the eyes of many.

I can't help it, I have a soft spot for McGwire.......After the strike, where the Bajillionaires literally threatened to take their ball and bats and go home, he and Sosa's record chase made baseball interesting again. We sat glued to our TV's whenever they were playing waiting for them to crush balls. Sometimes I think we put this enormous pressure on Athletes to perform, but then are surprised when we hear they did whatever it takes to reach their (our) goals. A simple glance at his, bonds', and Jose's rookie cards compared to when they retired is enough to deduce that they ALL were using (abusing) performance enhancing substances.

To be clear, I think pro Athletes are GROSSLY overpaid, sometimes often spoiled jerkoffs, but I enjoy Baseball, Hockey and Football very much. I also really liked the way that McGwire carried himself....Respectful to the Maris record and his arch rival Sosa. He never seemed to take himself too seriously, humbly smashing long balls. He was a mediocre fielder at best, and if I'm not mistaken, a leader in the strikeout dpartment as well.

One more thing, watching him sob through his press conference when he and his wife announced the formation of the Mark McGwire Foundation for abused Children sold me as well. Anyone who on his own accord decides to give millions and millions of dollars of his own cash to help kids is OK in my book......(This happened in the prime of his career too, not damage control after he got in trouble.)

They USE your love of the game to be jerkoffs and extort gazillions. I refuse to participate. I only watch college sports now. Haven't been to pro football, baseball or ESPECIALLY basketball game in 15 years.....if fans don't stop this insanity, it won't stop.

As an A's fan since i was a kid, and having seen McGuire from the start when both he and Canseco first came into the league. I'm shocked.

I thought it was normal to put on 30 lbs of muscle in one off-season...

When he met with congress he said he wasn't going to talk about the past. So he didn't lie. He had a wise attorney.

I am just shocked. After his convincing trial with congress I thought for sure he must be telling the truth. What is this world coming to when a pro athlete lies to the government?!

The best part is that he said he didn't use the steroids or HGH to get bigger and stronger. Only used to help his body recover from injury. What the hell did he think would happen?
