Ko2 vs ridge grappler

So, I have ko2's now. Love them! I'm upgrading soon from 265/70/17 to 285/70/17. Was looking at trail grapplers and or open country mts. Love the idea of quiet mud tires. But they are heavy as all hell and expensive. Nitto released the ridge grapplers recently in c rated weighing in at 52-54 lbs which is lighter than the ko2's and look close to the same of as nice beefy A/T. Just wanted offroad experience more or less with someone who went from the ko2 to the ridge grapplers and the difference. Street reviews have been a close comparison. Also how big is the difference in spacing between the side lugs? I want to see theses 2 side by side in the same size but its hard to find anyone who has them in not ordered. Hopefully I'm not have to going to be the guinea pig.

 

If you love the KO2's, why change? Sounds like you already have the perfect set up anyway.

 

If they are quiet they aren't mud tires. The Ridge Grappler tread resembles the new Falken AT tread. It would appear they are both tires designed to bridge the gap between mud tires and all terrains. They are what people like to call 'aggressive looking AT's'. I run the new Falkens and they have been super, but pack out in the mud quicker than any true mud tire I have run.

 

I'm up sizing so looking through options. There us always something new out

I know a/ t's aren't going to be great in the mud, that's a compromise we all make to not roar down the highway and completely ruin MPG. I really avoid the crap out of mud. Obviously some is unavoidable. So I still "want" the best of both worlds so to speak

 

A hybrid would be the way to go then (the ridge grapplers, duratracs, cooper st maxx, ect).

I like that its available in 285/70 C load.. is more ideal for a Tacoma than E load

 

Same here. The wieght savings is a big bonus

 

I had 35" trail grapplers on my Avalanche and loved them. I'm just worried about any E load tire on my Taco and the ride. I have 5400 miles, but so far have 0 miles off road. I like to be a poser, but am so busy I just can't get offroad anymore.

 

I love the idea of those tires. I just can't rationalize the funds and the gas mileage/power decrease.

 

Just installed my ridge grapplers today so can't have too much of an opinion yet, but so far they seem much quieter than my prior ko2 and seems to have much less rolling resistance. Maybe just in my head. I loved my ko2 but got a steal and went up to 285. 100 miles in I'm happy.

 

Are you lifted? Rubbing any so far?

Anyone have real offroad experience with the Ridge Grapplers yet? The tread pattern doesn't look nearly as aggressive as other AT/MT hybrid tires like the Cooper ST Maxx or Toyo RT which I originally wanted. If they weren't offered in a C load rating I probably wouldn't even be considering them.

Edit: I live in Florida so lots of soft dirt, sand, clay, and saturated cattle pastures that are easy to get stuck in real quick. Not worried about snow performance.

 

This might be waking up a dead thread but I wanted to add my two cents. I’ve been rocking the Ridgegrapplers now for about 12k miles. Wear is good, noise is minimal, but the loss in MPG and acceleration have been pretty much night and day since switching from the factory rubber. They do well in snow, ok/not the best on ice and their traction in wet is a 6/10. Ive added sandbags to the bed of my truck.. I’ve either got a heavy foot or the tires just spin really easy.


All in all I’m happy with them. Running 275/70/17 on FN FX wheels factory suspension. No rubs as far as I can tell.

 

where did you find 275/70/17 grapplers...you must have the only set

Ridge Grapplers hands down, I had Ko2's and were fine but as far as wet weather driving the Ridge Grapplers are superior.

 

Apples and oranges, Brudduh. I love my ridge graps, but really you cant go wrong with either.

 

Thanks for the input. I was considering switching to K02 from my grapplers but If wet traction is worse.. no need! Cheers

 

I would go with the Nitto RGs simply because the look WAY better. When I buy tires my top 2 considerations are looks and weight (4cyl). I don't care about MPGs or how long the tire will last.
