Seriously, those things are the latest in marketing hype and time wasted on the trail trying to use it.
Kind of like the plastic sleds I see on some rigs.

While the hook itself is rated just fine the clip portion on the bottom is not rated for the same pull strength. A closed loop system eliminates the possible failure of NOT securing the hook correctly. It helps those with less experience make a safe pull.

There is also a bling factor involved. :D

Always a better mouse trap out there and somebody willing to waste money on it.

Seriously, I better not be stuck behind one of you guys while you fiddle around with finding a D ring, then go after your tool box because you tightened the thing down in a vise.

Just slip the hook on and flip the winch toggle to pull. Works everytime.

So say your "hooked" up on a pull, you did it right the first time with the open end down you are pulLing along assisting with a slight bit of throttle where you can and all in the sudden the tire grab for a second causing slack in the line allowing the hook to slack turn upside down and fall off. And your truck loose grip and you roll backwards because you are no longer hooked up.

I know it's a one in a million scenario but you never know.

Which is why I now have soft shackles rated for 3 times the amount of any D ring out there (just about) also eliminates another hard projectile from the line.

    Wtf are you talking about?
That is where the D ring goes. In the D ring mount. So you can hook the hook to it.

And if you are following the typical heep owner that does not have that kind of bumper?

Well, then you hook a strap in their receiver hitch. If they don't have that go for the frame and chew their ass for being an idiot.

Honestly for me I don't mind the over thought safety. I took a class last winter on winch safety and pulls. It was interesting and worth my time.
