I got this response on 1/26:
We are very close to releasing the G4 Elite for the new Tacoma. I would expect that we will begin taking orders in the next few weeks.

Anybody hear anything more recently?

 

They told me that the cover design is complete for the 2016, they are just waiting for the new parts to come in so they can assemble the cover and ship out. Been getting the same response for the last 3 months, it should be available at the end of the month. May need a 2017 promo code by the time it's available.

 

Thanks for letting us know about the discount code. I have been looking at the G4 Elite for awhile and this helped pull the trigger. I tried an Extang Solid Fold 2.0 and it did not fit at all.

Has anybody replaced the mounting bolts of the G4 with thumb screws so the top can be removed without tools? From the manual they are 1/4-20 bolts, but was concerned with how much room is available for the thumb screw. I can get bolts with T-handles or knobs.

I was thinking of that, the bolts are pretty close. If the Wingnuts etc are small enough it would work. Just haven't had to remove mine yet.

 

For those who may not know the G4 for 2016 Tacoma's is now available on the website. I bought mine yesterday and they are shipping it to me next week.

I used the promo code listed above and got the $25 discount. A 2 year warranty and a sealing strip for the tailgate are included in the price.

I have been calling since January, getting the "we're almost ready to release it" promise. I've been on their waiting list and they had promised that they'd notify me when it was ready to release. They haven't notified me, but it is up on their website. They took my money and sent me a receipt and a promise to ship on 4/29 (free shipping)

The new G4 is supposed to mount in half the time of the previous generation....

 

Their web site states they will start shipping on 4/27, is this another delay?

This is great news (and its about damn time!). Please keep us posted when it arrives and how installation is. Did you have one for the previous generation? I'm wondering what design changes make it easier to install and if it's just as easy to remove as before.

Had my fold a cover for ohh 5 months now on a 2014, no issues, don't really use it. Only opened it once and folded it up to move a exercise treadmill. Nice to see if the new one has less than 30,000 minor adjustments to get it 'just right. I do like the quality of the cover for sure.

 

Does this cover have any advantages over the factory one on 2016 Tacoma ?

 

The main difference is the fold-a-cover can flip open at both the cab and tailgate end and there are key locks on both ends that open. I'm curious when they will actually start shipping the 2016 cover. I've been getting the "should be ready next week" response from their customer service for the past 3 months.

Do you have to alter your bed at all to install this cover?

 

I am looking at this cover now. Anyone get theirs? Leak? How hard is installation? I own a '16 TRD Sport short bed. Thanks

Well my G4 is on and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Did do a lot of minor adjusting after I let the rubber seals heat up out in the sun. Just got done adding some seals on the bulk head and around the tailgate. Really like the cover. It definitely improved the gas mileage by almost 1mpg. I went up north and was pleasantly happy with the results.
