It has everything to do with politics and nothing to do with history, or the historical significance of any event or person.

If that heritage gets forgotten, it will be at the fault of those who didn't care enough to embrace it and pass it to a new generation, not because the school changed names or the flag got taken down.

well don't misunderstand me either i don't condone things that happened in the past as you stated there have been things that have happened all through history that at the time may have been viewed as appropriate but as time progressed were realised not to be

I'd love it if you did since you're certain, but eventually you'll have to prove your theory and probability has two function, predicted probability and actual probability, so in conclusion you're nowhere closer than you were the other day or the day before that

Mine had burlap backed carpet over asbestos vynil tile...
It didn't look bad but smelled awful!
Trapped heat in the house like a mufuka...
Ripped it out and stripped and seal wax the tiles...
Until I can lay a floor...
Can leave the original tile as moisture barrier.

Agreed. But politically there's huge motivation (money) to do those things.

A small mention and I'll not fuck this thread up again, but symbolism is an incredibly strong concept and it really didn't occur to me until I visited the Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC. I am in no means drawing any line of comparison between the two events or times in history, but moreso trying to make a point that the history or weight of an item in itself (a statue, a flag, a school name) is far surpassed by the history or weight of the meaning behind it, good or bad. I can look at a pair of eyeglasses at an antique shop and have absolutely zero thoughts about them. But, thousands and thousands of people walk into a room of eyeglasses and are brought to their knees in pain and anger over the gravity of their meaning, what they represent.

I can fully understand, now, that there will be people who are deeply hurt and lives are changed by things that they see.

Teaching your children about their heritage is just as important as teaching the next generation why the room full of eyeglasses is significant. Without either effort, both will eventually mean nothing. Both are historically significant and of great human value to remain a modern topic, despite their modern connotations.
