To lift or not to lift??

Ok well after staring at my truck or awhile, Imagineing what I should do. I was wondering if I should keep it stock height with KM2's and black wheels. Or do a 3" lift with 285's on it with black rims. Or a leveling kit with I don't know what size of tires. Help me out here. Im kind of on a budget. about 2k or less.

Well it's also a daily driver. 4banger with a hand shaker. Im worried about getting the tires going. This truck is also gonna be a trail rig, I just don't want to smoke my clutch on a rock climb or a muddy hill.

 

I am running rear TSB leaf pack, front Elbach coils. 16x8 wheels with some nice offset and p265/75r16 tires. I have an Aces CAB and 4 cycl. Truck looks good and handles it fine. I would worry about a LT285/75R16 Load range D tire, because of the size and weight of them. The lil old inline 4 would really be feeling it.

 

^Good setup for the four banger. Eibach's and/or billys.

 

How much would that set up cost...Forgive me, Im new to Toyotas and lifts.

 

not sure if im 100% correct on this but a leveling kit is basicaly pointless on a tacoma... its not going to do much really. atleast not like on a fullsize truck

 

Im really leaning toward a 2" front and 1.25 rear leveling kit. With 265/75/16 Hankook M/T with black wheels.

Front adjustable bilsteins 5100s - 200
Goodyear Duratracs 265/75R16 - 650
Paint for rims - 10

For under 900 bucks, truck leveled and lifted about 1 inch, great tire and wheel package, looks and drives outstanding.

put the bull bar and nerf bars on for another 300. Good to go !!

Rear TSB is about +1"
The Elbach front is about +1.8" up front. (or go Billy shocks)
The truck sits level

FYI. a "P" rated 265/75r16 AT tire weighs about 10lbs less per tire then a LT265/74R16 which will most likely is a load range D. This is a huge amount of weight if you consider it as rolling weight vs. dead weight. I think you would notice a large diff. between the two tires and how much power the truck feels it has.

 

Are the duratrac's P rated?

i have toytec coilovers sitting on billy 5100s all around. not sure if its jus tmy truck but i have so many squeaks and creaking noises. i wish i just kept it stock height with some new wheels and tires sometimes.

You'll burn more fuel and the leveling kit looks just fine with 265/75/16 tires. I have 285s on one truck and run 265s on my other 3. If you are looking for a lift for offroad purposes, my answer would be different. Aesthetically speaking, I like the 265s with just enough clearance.

wd40 the shit out of everything and the squeaks should stop.... atleast they did for me haha

 

rear TSB and billy 5100s in the front set to 1.75" and it sits great, looks awsome with 265/75/16s. no alignment or ride issues, no squeaks. handles great off road for moderate trails.

 

With your inline 4. If you do a 3" lift and 285 muds. You of might as well gotten a v6, because it would be better on gas then your 4 banger.

Ask yourself:
I bought a 4 cycl because of the economy.... Now three choices to ask yourself:

Total looks to make up for a small dick: Then go 3" and Swampers

Decent looks/performance, little bite outa fuel economy then TSB/LEVEL and 265/75

If you still question buying a tacoma vs a prius then put on 235/75 tires and get some of those truck nutz to hang from your bumper.

We all have our trucks for a specific reason. For a trail rig V6 and 3" with muds is good choice. If you buy a 4 banger, it is silly to turn it into this. You will end up getting worse mileage then the guy with a 6" lift on here.
