Ok so I have 1300 miles on my 3rd Gen V6 Limited. I put it in 4X4 Hi today and went into reverse from a cold start. I made sure the 4X4 light stopped flashing first. The truck felt like it was pushing against itself. It didn't want to move. Then when I shifted to drive it felt like it shuddered. Then the whole drive for about 10 miles till I turned it off seemed very sluggish like it didn't want to move. I am in Florida.

I never wait for light to stop flashing. Have you tried switching to 4 by 4 again?

Going to 4hi you don't wait for it to stop flashing. You slowly drive forward or reverse in a straight line until it stops flashing.
Going to 4lo you put in neutral and wait for it to stop flashing.

FFS people, read the damn card on the visor.

If the light is still flashing then you aren't in 4wd. But it should still engage even if you're moving as long as your wheels are in a straight line.

OP so you can move forward in 4x4 just not in reverse? Are you trying in 4hi or 4lo? Either way it should work in reverse (just don't try engaging 4lo while moving, be at a stop and in neutral until it engages). Sounds like something you'll need to take in and use the warranty for.

Go to the dealership and ask. You're still under warranty.

OR he had his wheels turned which caused it too bind up which causes resistance

Sorry, while I did quote you, it was to continue your comment, not to direct my comment to you. Didn't mean to confuse.

Were you trying to drive on pavement? Turning perhaps?

So you started the truck with it in 2WD, then moved the switch to 4WD then put it in reverse from Park?

For 2Hi ->4Hi the truck has to be in motion to engage and usually the light will not stop blinking until it is.

    pg 244-247 of manual

In my experience with my 4X4, I do find the "locking" process annoying in that the the distance traveled for the system to engage/ disengage never seems to be consistent, but that's just me. This is also the first 4WD vehicle I ave ever had

Yeah that's just the nature of 4wd, sometimes when I go into 4hi it will engage as soon as I press the button when I'm at a stop. Other times I need to roll forward a few feet or several before it engages. Everything needs to be lined up properly for that to happen and sometimes it happens quicker than others, sometimes you hit the jackpot and it happens to be ready to go right when you press the button (or turn the switch in you guys' case). Same goes for the e-locker.
