Right... Or at least pointless comments. I can understand wanting to have some fun, but if it makes it harder to accomplish a goal then there's no point in bothering here. Nobody is trolling, at least it's reasonable compared to other sites. But would be nice to stay on topic. Or read before asking obvious questions. Be helpful. Let's stay on the same team. Thanks for help everyone. I'll post pics of that plate I ordered as soon as it's in.

Relax ... think about this for a moment ... many of us take great pride in our Tacomas. Yes, many of us make modifications to suit our needs or to make our trucks unique.

Some are great ideas ... some are big $$$ ... some are off the wall ... some a simple ... some are complex ... some are crazy ... some are ingenious ... well, you get the point.

Now, back to the topic at hand ... and considering the fine modifications we have seen posted ... this my friend ... removing a finished piece of interior molding, leaving the raw mechanical workings open has to be ... in my mind mind you ... one of the crazier attempts.

Having said that ... yes ... sarcasm has surfaced ... it's called a sense of humor ... no bashing involved ... nor intended for that matter.

Alright ... stepping down off my soapbox ... going to get some popcorn and go back to continue to enjoy other's mods.

    Nice Rifle Mount.

To the OP, I can see your point, but like others said before me I use the console to rest my arm at times, but i have been driving a 03 4Runner the last year between tacos and I really wish the center console top in the taco was a tad bit longer so I didn't have to reach my arm backwards.

Your idea is making me want to see if I can retrofit my console from my 4Runner....

Are you using your taco as a patrol vehicle? I used to hate the impala we drove. They spent more time in the shop then on the road.

Fair enough. It does make me a bit nervous, and my kids have walked on that old thin board I have over the ultra critical shifter linkage and parking brake. But with the Single cab protector plate coming those days will hopefully be over soon. Fingers crossed for a good fit.

The protector plate does not fit. Not even close. Would require drilling and bending so am not going there.

Just remembered about this post. The update is; still no center console, still loving it. No longer have a big huge box with a little tiny storage space, but have plenty of room for the last year of stuff that we need there, or nothing at all. Have not modified any further since the single cab console would need major cutting and gluing, and would look like crap, take a lot of time. It's not going back until I sell it.

Ive been considering swapping from bucket to bench in my extended cab.. I often drive with my dog and having bucket seats suck.. im subbing to see how this could all work since this project has some similarities to what i want to do

I've been thinking exactly the same thing. The Silverado this replaces had a big 'ol bench up front and my doggo sat right next to me. I miss that in this truck. I've been thinking about deleting the center console and making a custom plate to go over it that my pupper can perch on.

You could probably get a center console type thing out of a 5 lug single cab it stops right behind the gear shifter. I've put alot of miles on a 2nd gen Tacoma with a bench seat and also with bucket seats. The bench seat is nice for a little more room and you can cramp 3 people in but I wouldn't trade out my buckets for them especially if you ever drive anywhere over an hour away.

That's where the MT shifter sits in my AC. Might need a longer shift cable to move the auto shifter forward and use a single cab console.

Op doesn't need any approval or permission to do what he intends, he's simply sharing an idea, maybe pick up some info or ideas along the way. I use my center console to cover mods I've stuffed under it and would have accessible but not visible.

Yeah, I've seen that and it is a good option.

I've done some console deletes before; a little bit of fabrication can net something really nice that looks factory; I like to pull materials out of OEM salvage cars and use them to wrap whatever structure I make so it all matches perfectly. Removing the top fascia and box seems to leave a nice area to work on with pre-existing fastener points, which makes it quite a bit easier than the ones I've done in the past.

    Plus... Doggo sitting area. :)
