Great looking truck. Out of curiosity, what is it about the fit and finish of the bumper?

 

Thanks. I was expecting a more "fitted" fit on the front. The fenders and bumper fit great but there is a bit of a gap between the grill and the bumper so there is no real way to secure the bottom of the grill back to the body. i also had some problems fitting the fogs in and had to trim alittle of the body parts to get them to fit right. Overall it's a great bumper, just a few details are missing.

 

Broke her in this weekend on some sand trails in northern Michigan. I really like how the suspension works! For running trails at 30-40 mph and this thing just ate the bumps and whoops. The rear needs some working you're riding empty - the OME springs are just way to stiff unless the truck is loaded. Although it rides great fully loaded with 1000 pounds of gear and people which is why I'm a bit conflicted about Removing an overload leaf.

Welded up the sliders today... If you're considering a cheaper option for sliders, the trail gears aren't bad. I ordered the bolt ons from 4wheeparts with free shipping and welded them on. The passenger side was perfect, just had to cut the leg of the angle iron to clear the frame welds in the bottom of the mounts, the driver side however, was fab'for differently and didn't sit as far forward as the passenger side. I can live with the little fab issues since I only paid a quarter of what a set of other companies charge. If you plan on welding them on... Just get the weld ons. It will make your life easier.




I'm content with the outcome. At the end of the day I can jack the truck up and drive like a posed off teenager that's all I really needed.

Colorado has been fun so far. Plenty of sweet pinstripes and chips out of my beautiful Method's - but hey - Build it. Use it. Enjoy it.

In the past two weeks I ran MSV, Holy Cross City, and T-33a Plane Crash site. The truck is amazing the ride is FAR supperior to my old jeeps and I love having the ability to load the bed with coors light.







one thing that i've noticed is the 650 coils are GREAT at soaking up bumps, but they have settled a little and permit fender rub on the fenders. I'll be chopping the fenders when i get back to the shop in Michigan sometime in september. Also planning a lot of other little cool fab projects (rear bumper, flat belly skids, custom rear seat storage and some other odds and ends).

I've had a couple comments regarding the Aluminum front skid - as an engineer i found it to be the best option because 1. i don't drive like a ding-dong and 2. in the event of a shock, the aluminum will deform slightly and provide a greater absorbance and transmission of the load path to the mounts thereby reducing the impact and potential fatigue to the components in the IFS system. Will it stop a boulder from going through my clamshell if I rail it at 35 mph? probably not... but it will provide protection if I accidentally drop of a rock or get wedged in a tight spot.

Tire pressure @ 32 to 38 psi depending on the environment (i go high on long trips). Air down to 20 psi for the trails and haven't had a single problem with traction.

Mounted the Nav and entertainment system using the panavise mount, iPad mini and DUAL Bluetooth GPS receiver. I hate wires, so the current management system will work until I can come up with a better way / shorter cords.

The rack was designed to hold 4 action packers or two pelican 1620's, 8 gallons of fluids, shovel, highlift with modular capacity for awnings, lights, snowbord racks, etc while keeping the overall height to minimum. Once everything is complete and painted the tonneau will be fitted back on.

I needed a way to get water out of the rotopax without taking them off the truck so i built a spigot out of 1/2" NPT garden fitting, spare o ring and a (i think) 1 1/2" PVC to 1/2" NPT fitting. I cut about 3/4" of an inch off the PVC fitting and it presses into the rotopax perfectly.



It doesn't vent well (obviously) but it works and fills a liter in about minute.

I also purchased one of these (which looks promising).

The new rotopax are vented, so the method with the PVC and garden fitting should work perfectly on the new application.

 

Canyonlands Trip:
100+ Miles off-road on the white rim trail. Excellent trail traversed counter clock wise. Completed in 3 days, 2 nights. check instagram for all the pics!

 

So after cayonlands, sleeping on the ground was just unacceptable, so I called up Bobby at CVT tents (you get 15% discount for being a forum member, btw) and ordered a Shasta Pioneer Extended. Looks super good perched on the AOF bed rack.
