0210 Crawls Starbucks

Got the itch to start sharing truck photos again. This will be less of a pure build thread, and more of a build + places I've gone thread, with the occasional random photo just cause I like it. More can be found on Instagram: @eatsleepwoof.

Good lookin dog. Amazing photos. And beautiful nature out there. Really jealous.

 

This alone is making me consider moving to Canada. Those are some breathe taking spots.

We do have some amazing scenery around here. Unfortunately most of those photos came at the cost of hundreds of deep pin-stripes the entire length of the truck. I spent four hours crawling around with an orbital polisher after the last exploratory trip, and while the truck looks fantastic from a metre away, certain angles still show countless pinstripes that will likely never go away. Price of passage to some of these hidden gems! Oh, and my hitch is also dented like mad - will be getting a metal rear bumper in the next year or so.

 

Also, see that last photo of my dog on the mountain? That was taken roughly 10 minutes before a massive grizzly popped up roughly 40-50 metres behind her. Had it not been for my dog's constant sentry-like scanning, he'd have likely snuck up a lot closer. We've ran into black bears a couple dozen times before, but I've never before seen a bear as large as this grizz!

Nope. All photos are from well west of Kelowna. Banff is spectacular, but I've yet to take the truck there.

 

Today I emptied out all my camping gear, fridge, hi-lift, etc. from the bed and started on the second version of a drawer storage system.



This system will sit entirely on my bed slide and will be made of two separate parts:

Part 1 (passenger side):
- single ~5 1/4" high, ~13.5" wide, ~50" deep drawer (the cavity for which is in the photo); this will house the grill and whatever other kitchen-related items will fit; considering making a slide-out cutting board that will extend further than the drawer
- my 63QT ARB fridge will sit at the far end of the visible platform (there is exactly 17" of empty space between the end of the platform and the end of the bed slide); note how much the platform extends beyond the bed slide - I made it just high enough to clear the wheel wells by 1/4" inch, and just wide enough to not drag on the bed sides when being extended
- immediately in front of the fridge will be two drawers, 16" deep, stacked one above another; these will be just high enough to not interfere with the fridge's controls

- behind the fridge will be three vertically-stacked compartments;
-- compartment one (lowest) will be roughly 9" in height, will contain the batteries I'm currently using to power the fridge, and will have room for more batteries should I want them in the future; ventilation openings will be made, as will openings to run wires in/out
---- this compartment's lid will open upwards on a hinge
-- sitting on top of the battery compartment will be a cavity that is open on two sides (left and right); this will be just large enough for my small action packer, which I will be able to slide out should I need the items inside (rarely accessible stuff)
-- sitting on top of the action packer container will be the fourth drawer, which will slide out to the passenger side, right through the open windoor in my canopy
-- somewhere on these three compartments I will find room to mount a few 12V and USB ports;

I bought magnetic closing hardware for the drawers, but am considering using cabinet locks to secure them instead. Will decide soon enough.

Part 2 (driver's side):

- this will be a mirror of the passenger's side, except it will extend the full length of the bedslide as one piece, and will open up vertically. This box will contain the sleeping mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, etc. A rubber mat will sit on top of this side so I don't have to scratch myself up on whatever finish I end up using (line-x, monstaliner, etc.) for the entire system.
-- this side will easily lift up and out of the truck when I don't want/need it, but will otherwise provide a pretty reasonable sleeping area (about 32-33" wide by 70" long). I'm exactly 6' tall and suspect that length-wise it'll be a bit cramped, but there's plenty enough width to be comfortable (already tried). Will see how this goes, especially since I'll be sleeping next to the fridge which may be loud enough to keep me up.
