Don't ask me why I was looking into the Sienna.

So I was looking at the Toyota Sienna...
and it looks like you can add this remote engine
starter feature to your minivan for $499.
    (See 'Detail Images' below.)

What's interesting is the disclaimer about only available in the factory remote key-less entry.
FYI, in any TRD/Limited (non-manual) Tacoma you get key-less remote entry.

This all begs the million dollar question,
do we want this to be an option on the Tacoma?

How difficult would it be for Toyota to add this feature?

It's almost certain that Toyota pays a group of people to comb
this forum for feedback. If there's an alarming # of people
whom are willing to pay for the feature, why don't they take
    this demand and supply it?!

We aren't asking for it FOR FREE, but it would definitely justify
Toyota's price hike for the 2017's. (Please make it free!)
Use that as a marketing ploy!

I'm not arguing whether the Remote Engine Starter is needed or not. My question is,
why does the Sienna get this feature as an option and not the Tacoma? Get your
    product line uniform!

The 2017 price increase is due to the power sliding rear window. God damnit I want that feature!!!!!

I agree, but it would have preferred remote start over a sliding window.

Remote start is pretty easily added with aftermarket. A rear window is a bit more of a pane (LOL GET IT) in the ass.
I do also want a remote start and I'm really gonna want it once the cold weather starts. Since it wasn't offered for the 16' Tacoma, I'll probably add the remote start later this fall.

Get an aftermarket remote start. I know this isn't about whether or not you actually want one but more a question of why it isn't available, but regardless, get an aftermarket unit.

My wife's CX-5 has the OEM remote start that we added. My understanding is that Toyota integrates the remote starter into the OEM keyless entry key, which is 10x better than the bulky additional fob that Mazda uses.

The BIGGEST issue with OEM remote starts is the car shuts off the second you open the door (or in Toyota's case, unlock the car with the fob). You then have to immediately restart the car. The aftermarket units will let you jump in and hit the brake (after putting the key in and turning it) and off you go. The OEM ranges are also terrible compared to aftermarket.

If I had an automatic, I'd be all over an aftermarket remote start since Toyota doesn't put OEM alarms in these trucks, but having a manual, I leave it in gear too often and would likely launch it into my house on accident.

I had factory remote starts on my Acura and Exploder, can aftermarket ones be programmed to use the factory fob?

Yes Had it setup on my 07 Tundra Ltd. I believe the remote start required a spare key fob to be hidden under the dash

You won't be able to arm the remote start with it in gear. There is a sequence you have to go through to prevent the possibility of that happening.

Most of the other truck companies are building in the remote start as part of the mid to upper model trucks and have been for years. Personally, if i'm going to add a remote start system It wont be the factory system. Why pay $500 for toyota's system when I get get a good Viper system installed for $400 with all the features.

I've had this one on my truck before and it works great!!! i'm planning on getting this one or similar soon

This is my biggest gripe with my truck. If it has push button start, it has everything needed for remote start. All they have to do is add a button to the fob.

I thought Toyota didn't add a remote start button to the fob?
Something like pressing the Lock button twice, and then pressing and holding it for 3 seconds comes to mind.
    Edited to add picture.

even simpler. All they have to do is reprogram the keyless entry module.

This has been brought up before in another discussion. I was told I was lying when I wrote I had remote factory start on my 2016 Tacoma TRD off road. I told the dealer I wanted remote start so they added it on my two fobs, push lock button two times then hold button third time. The best part is the dealer forgot to charge me for it $479.00 !!!

i read that other thread , i totally believe you, does your tag on the other side say toyota or is it aftermarket product that uses the factory key fob to operate is what others were trying to ask, but it came off as saying you were lying. the back of your tag looks exactly like my father in laws toyota sequoia factory keyless start

Dealers don't want it to be a factory installed feature, selling remote starts is a huge source of profit. And yes the oem starter sucks, only 80 feet of range.

$500 is some serious bullshit I paid $160 for my Viper 5706V high security alarm system WITH a remote start. Even has a 2-way system with a 1-mile radius. $500 for just this feature on the stock fob is absurd.
