ATV Mechanic/Good Shop?

    Anyone know a good shop or have a mechanic friend or yourself that could rebuild the transmission on a 07 Suzuki LTR450?? Preferably close to NV to cut down on shipping costs.

    I'm going to talk to a guy in town who use to have a shop before the economy crashed, but it doesn't hurt to shop around for a good deal.
    We might just do it ourselves depending on what the costs come out to be.

    So far the place I've heard the best reviews on is ATP Racing
    http://www.atpracingengines.com/ and it looks like it would cost around $1200ish+ and they are all the way in Florida :(. I could buy a used motor for that much and just swap it out much easier.

    Oh yeah..the problems are it just started slipping out of gear into neutral, then it's not always engaging in 3rd gear (sounds like a rattle can), 3rd still works just not all the time. I'm thinking bent shift fork and broken teeth on the 3rd gear :confused:.

    Any info is appreciated :D.

    They're in Indiana, but they have an awesome fix for Honda's 3rd gear problems. Maybe they can help with your ltr?

    ATV cycle sports up here in the North is good. Or check out Sandsports(I think) in St. George. A guy I just sold my 250 says that is the only place he takes his bored out 700 w/ nitrous.

    Nope :cool: I'm not interested in anything faster or more powerful, I have a sandrail for that kind of fun.

    I heard Honda and Suzuki 450's are the same trans.

    Are you talking about Steve?? No they are still bf and gf. I do all my own work and just ride with them. So I'm not sure how the maintenance side of the house is.

    Yeah, Steve...nice guy, just don't want to get involved in business with him...but I have heard that it isn't as bad there as it use to be.

    Try draining the oil and filtering through some paper towels to check for bits of metal. Engine oil on motorcycle/atv motors also lubricates the clutch and transmission. If you've shredded a gear, those pieces will be circulated through the motor until they're captured by the filter.

    IMO, it'd be better to replace the motor/trans together if you find metal bits in the oil. You can also remove the filter and split the case to check the filter media for captured metal pieces.

    I haven't had a chance to check the oil yet, we had to put the sandrail back together before we can pull the quads out and start working on those. It's been parked in the trailer since it happened, when we get it out I'm going to drop it off and have it torn down. I could pull the clutch and check the teeth, but I already know something is broken so the trans has to come out either way. I got this quad cheap, so putting a new motor/trans in it isn't worth it, I'd just buy another one instead and part this one out.
