I see Chevy just updated the Colorado for '17 with a more powerful V6 and an 8 speed transmission, plus improved fuel economy. But I haven't heard anything about the Tacoma. Is Toyota planning to update the Tacoma for 2017 or not?

One, the current Colorado has been out for longer than the Tacoma. Two, the Tacoma's sales dwarf the Colorado's so the urgency to make changes is probably lower.

Well how many changes do you expect? The 3rd gen Tacoma has been out for one year. lol

some of this, a little of that
doubtful, I think what you have is what you will have for a long time, minus some software changes eventually.

I mean, who knows, but I personally wouldn't expect any kind of powertrain update any time soon. I could maybe see an 8 speed tranny when/if there is an eventual refresh, years from now, but that's it.

With many new Mid-Sized Trucks expected to enter the market over the next few years, I would expect Toyota will have to up its game, competition is a good thing.

I disagree. GM has taken a huge bite out of the segment. Tacoma sales are still strong but new competition from Hyundai, Ford, Jeep etc will make competition more intense.

They haven't really taken a bite out of anything. The market for midsize trucks has just increased. Tacoma still sells on the high end of what it ever has, and by itself, almost outsells the others combined.

    And Hyundai? lol

Maybe they will fix all the problems the 3rd gens are having. Don't expect a change since its been out for 1 year.
Hell the cab hasn't changed in 11 years so I'd doubt they would jump to a 4th gen

They aint changing jack anytime soon.

I do see mid life cycle refreshe (2020-21) like more interior options and perhaps some lipstick to the lights or front fascia.... like in 2012.
But major power train changes won't happen until Gen 4 when hybrid and electrics are practically the norm choice.

I see hybrid and turbo-4 options with 8 speeds...

That's why I say we have one of the last manual generation Tacos. Unfortunately...

I had the 6 speed in my '10 tundra and hated it. always looking for gears. I prefer the 5 speed that is in my '11. Or, if Toyota would just buy the 7 speed PDK from Porsche.

That thing almost makes the Ridgeline not look completely clown shoes.

Of course this vehicle is not in the same league as the Tacoma, but I be they sell A LOT to urban folks who want to haul stuff.

I think it looks pretty cool for what it is. It's unique.
