I am of the mindset that QUALITY competition is beneficial for all. Darwinism. Natural selection. It works.

Still waiting for Toyota to see some.

Based on the last two generations of Colly/Canyon, though, I'm not all that hopeful.

Also, every vehicle is becoming more and more plastic, and the plastic gets thinner every iteration. To get a really NICE car these days, you're going to spend more than what either midsize truck offering commands, IMO.

I think if you took a "perfect" GM twin and a "perfect" Toyota, each brand would still win it's favorites, and those in the middle ground would likely believe that long term durability would go to Toyota. They'd be right, so far as I've ever seen, Nissan included. GM is certainly capable of building a nice truck, I've had several, but the interiors don't hold up as well and don't last as long before they start turning into shit. To some extent, a GM makes a great 2 or 3 year vehicle. A Toyota makes a great 10 year vehicle.

First hand experience with a 5.3 in a GMC 1500, and numerous conversations with other owners. One of my employees also had a new 5.3 and it burns oil, all thanks to AFM.

I do prefer the Tacoma interior to the Colorado though.

Put over 100k in seat time in a 2006 GMC Duramax, it was great. The new stuff looks gorgeous, but haven't done anything but look at it on a screen.

Going to have a tough time convincing the guy who convinced himself that 3 trucks he's heard about and 1 truck he's driven don't equate to 400,000 trucks being piles of shit.

Yeah that is what scares me. I had a brain box go out on a '03 Dodge Dakota and the local garage owner/mechanic had no idea what was wrong. All he could think of doing is check the fuses and scratch his ass. I wound up taking it to the dealership. I'm going to start trading my trucks in every 3 years when the warranty runs out. I even thought about leasing. I will decide which is cheaper on me in 2 years when I trade this 2.7 in. Hoping Toyota gets things lined out with these Tacoma's. Nothing wrong with my 2.7 as long as you are not in a hurry..

Can't comment on the rest of the stuff in here, but the DOD on my GMC 5.3 is great. It really does save fuel and you can't tell when it's in 4 cyl mode. Haven't had any problems with it. The truck has been really solid. I would buy another GM with DOD.

how many miles are you at? Usually from what i've seen its 150k+ is where they start to suck oil.

Im always amazed at the power they can squeeze of of a small 6cyl. You cannot deny chevy makes amazing motors. I would not buy a new taco because from everything I hear , its gutless. I would not buy a canyon because I have owned chevys in the past.
Competition benefits the end user and hopefully toyota will put a low boost turbo on that 3.5 and run circles around everyone else.

I paid for one to be built before it started down the line. I was sad 7 weeks later when I drove it off the lot. Never slept good for 6 months until I traded it in on my Tacoma!

I have to agree with everyone on the interior. When I was shopping for a truck I thought the interior on the Colorado looked and felt cheap.

I think some of the new things they added are pretty cool though. Defiantly like the horsepower numbers
