I never use the ECT unless I am towing. I think the truck is responsive enough without it. All it takes is to push a little more on the gas pedal.

I haven't touched my ECT once since having the TSB completed.

Me neither. I actually like how it drives post-TSB without ECT more than I liked how it drove pre-TSB with ECT on.

Have had no reason to try it again. Honestly ECT mode didn't seem to do much anyway. It maybe just held gears a little longer which didn't improve the driving experience any but had a negative impact on fuel efficiency. Pre-TSB it still hunted for gears in ECT mode. Pretty worthless other than for towing.

    Yeah the TSB definitely helped.

I wouldn't call it better, but I seem to get the same mileage with ECT on all the time since I don't have to mash the pedal to the floor as much as I would with it off.

i am with you on this. was going to ask my dealer if any way to set ECT default to the on position. i have tried holding the button down then starting the truck, i saw a post long ago that someone jams tooth picks in the side of the button while it was pressed down keeping it pressed down all the time. as far as doing something that is behind the switch good luck getting the panel off.

I get much better mileage with the ETC on, especially on highway. I can make smaller adjustments to how much throttle I'm using and the shift points are much more predictable.
Cruising between the north and south sides of Denver I average 25 highway with the ETC on (for both directions).

I only use it when I am turning from a side street and there may be traffic coming. Otherwise I just cruise with it off.

As many have said, with the TSB done, there's far less need for ECT Power mode.

I have used ECT a few times when on curvy roads in hilly terrain. Under those conditions I really want to limit shifting and ECT holds gears noticeably longer. Under normal, or even aggressive driving, I prefer normal post-TSB operation to ECT.

For those who are reading this thread because you use ECT Power frequently but have NOT done the TSB, I encourage you to get the TSB done and see how you feel at that point.

i am on the fence weather to get TSB. now if in D and i am making a turn from a dead stop before i have completed the turn it has shifted in to 2nd while in ECT it takes longer, stays in first thru the turn and then some. i would get the TSB if i new it will not effect the ECT mode.

I haven't seen much in the way of comparison between ECT before and after the TSB. Those who have commented have said it works the same. I just don't use it enough anymore to really confirm that. However, I have not seen any posts that say ECT got worse or changed.

Get it done. There's a reason all Tacomas produced since mid July have it! It definitely remedies more than the 3 issues its supposed to address.

As I mentioned in my post it performs better post-TSB with ECT off than it does pre-TSB with ECT on.

I need to get the tsb done. Just been extremely busy. And not really in the mood to have them whine about my lift and tires

Let me be clear: I don't like ect. I just happen to be handy with circuits and soldering irons, and like getting a few bucks here and there to spend on new mods for the truck.

Also, with the right know-how, these switches can be removed without removing the panel. :)

Let us know if that push button idea works. That would be an easy solution if it does. Easy install too. Pop the wiring harness of the original button and into the new. I'm curious...

A simple change to the switch won't work. If it would, you could just jam the switch on. Testing by holding the switch in proves that a toggle will not work. You could make a simple circuit to pulse that line, but there are already products that do that.

If axisofoil wants to make a clean setup with a custom harness, that's great because more options are better. I just don't know how many are going to sell now that the TSB eliminates the need for ECT for the majority of folks.

axisofoil: If you have a method for pulling the switches out the front, let's see it. I think it may be possible, but it would likely require a thin tool that somehow allowed you to pull from the back. Otherwise, getting to the back of the panel requires a fair amount of interior disassembly that makes this a bigger project than it should.
