How to change the sensitivity of my alarm?

Does anyone have videos or pictures of how to change the sensitivity of my alarm on my 2017 Tacoma. It is the one from the dealer. Thanks!

Yo, resurrecting this. 2017 Off-Road with the (ugh) Karr system installed at the dealership.

I need to lower sensitivity. I stuck my head under the steering wheel but couldn't find the brain with the dial on it. Is it hidden behind a trim panel in these trucks? Thanks.

 

Gonna answer my own question here, in case it helps anyone. I had to call Karr to get assistance. Dude on the phone was great.

The Karr alarm on these trucks is a bit different from what I found online for previous gens. There's no longer a big black box with a dial on it. What you have instead is the little LED light unit with the valet button underneath.

To adjust sensitivity do the following:

1. Key on/off
2. Hold the valet button for ~5 seconds. I got a honk at this point. This means programming mode is on.
3. Press the button the # of times you want the sensitivity, from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest)
4. Test it by banging on the steering wheel. Full honks means full alarm. I was getting this on the default setting of 5. Quick succession of beeps means "warning" only (lower sensitivity)
5. Key on/off to exit programming mode

There it is. I was able to lower the sensor from 5/10 to 2/10, should do the trick.

 

Does this method work on 2019’s? Fireworks are making my car go off every 5 minutes lol.

How do you know if the vehicle has an alarm?

 

Try and set it off. If it doesn't go off, you probably don't have one. Check owner's manual.

 

Sadly motorcycles have been setting it off too.

 

Looks like the above method works on 19’s. Didn’t have to bang on the steering wheel to test, it just slightly honked after pressing the button to adjust the sensitivity.

 

Once you found the sensitivity level you want, let’s use 2/10 since it was already mentioned, is the next step just to turn off your vehicle if you’re satisfied with a level 2? There’s no button pushing needed to set that new level? It wasn’t 100% clear on what to do after you’ve found the level you want with the instructions listed above. However, a big thank you for writing out your experience, TBV. Your info allowed me to adjust my alarm sensitivity when I couldn’t find this info anywhere else.
