    The thought has crossed my mind. I am happy I went with this shop though because he has been extremely willing to fix what is wrong. He calls me into the shop to show me the steps he is taking to figure it out. It has to be something small causing this problem and most likely in the head but who knows. He is so far into this project that there is no way he can profit from what I have paid him. Anyways, he is going to research and consult with others on what could possibly be going wrong. I would go to him again if he finds and fixes this issue. Not a lot of businesses stand behind their work like he has.

    Heck, we might have a Wyo TW fishing meet if everyone can make it.

    Same as the last 3 times. It's dropping oil pressure when the truck is shut off. So when I turn it on, the timing chain has slack and it makes a nasty grinding sound as oil pressure returns and the tensioners start the work. It's only for a second or two. Some times it holds pressure and starts perfect, most times its minimal and barely noticeable and other times it's really bad and anyone within 20ft of the truck could probably hear it.

    For some reason, I recall you having an oil consumption issue. Is that unrelated to what you just described?

    It's not eating oil. I had a broken piston ring. I had the motor rebuilt but we are now running into this small, but annoying problem.

    My 2011 corolla (1.8L) makes the noise you described every once in a while on start up. Its pretty random actually. I figured it was caused by a lack of lubrication as it sounds a bit like a dry start. When I asked the dealer about it, the response I got was "they all do that". lol.

    It is interesting to hear that it is caused by a lack of hydraulic pressure in timing chain tensioners. On the corolla, the noise is very, very brief but unnerving nonetheless.

    Are you sure it is the tensioner and not the starter hanging up?

    We replaced the tensioners this last time. There was a faint rattle before at idle and that's now fixed. We have no idea what is the culprit. A mechanical gauge shows a drop in oil pressure so that leads us to believe the tensioners would lose slack.

    Mike, this is a very common problem with a few vehicles. It has to do with the tensioners. It usaully results in the timing chain guide breaking. Then the chain starts to eat into the cover and send chunks of aluminum into the engine. If you use an aftermarket oil filter it could cause it. Doesn't seem like something to worry about unless it lasts for 5 seconds. We took the engine apart after a few months of me driving around and it looked perfect other than a little wear on one of the timing cogs.

    Love how the O2 sensor plug was directly on top of the transmission and not loose to pull it to the side where a guy can see it.

    So. I'm stuck guys.

    A new front diff is going to cost me 1200 minum or up to 2k with locker. Which it being my second time I think I should opt for the locker.

    However. That's a lot of money..duh.

    It's more tempting to slap some tires on Igor, which he needs anyways. And start wheeling igor. Granted much lighter from what I'm used too.

    I can't afford both at this time. Frank is due for tires soon as well and the blower is being a bitch which makes me just want to remove it.

    Thoughts? Opinions? Shit talking? Anything?

    Oh and mike. What's the situation with your alt?
