I replaced all 6 of the speakers in my SR5 with Rockford Fosgate Prime speakers. Total cost including the mounts and connectors was about $125. Overall sound is way better, but you have to turn the volume up to about 40 or more to tell. I've also noticed streaming music from Pandora sounds way better than the FM or XM radios. I also think the stock head unit is way underpowered.

Does the stock head unit have jacks for an amp?

Will it make a difference how powerful the head unit is if I get an amp? I dont think it does right? Ive installed like 6 sub and amp systems, you'd think I'd know this.

Nope. You need to use a LOC (Line Output Converter), or an amp that takes speaker level input.

Well, line level out would be nicer, especially if the signal was unmodified, but stock systems typically roll off the bass frequencies on the speaker level outputs as the volume goes higher, to prevent the stock speakers from blowing. That means that if you simply added an amp with an LOC, you will get roll off on the bass at higher volume levels. You need a DSP to boost the bass frequencies as the volume goes up. It's too bad that the manufacturers don't add, for a few extra $$, some RCA outputs. They could even market this as a feature, offering amp upgrades.

Sorry I thought he was referring to the harnesses at the speakers. The link I provided was so you can attach after market speakers to factory wiring. Didn't realize he was referring to the wiring at the head unit.

One of my customers just put in a JL Audio System including an Amp, Sound Processor, Speakers, and Sub. Overall impressed with the sound quality and sound field however my JBL system seems to kick a bit harder. 8" JL sub was used for his build.

May need some help from you guys soon. Just order some new audio gear for my Taco. Decided on an Alpine PDX4. Going to put some Hertz 6.5" components up front and Hertz 6.5" coax in the rear. No sub for now.

Where do you guys recommend to place the amp? I plan on doing the install myself but am a bit of a rookie. I've done deck replacements and ripped out the centre console of my S4 for a short shift install, so I don't mind taking my vehicles apart. Just not familiar with amp placement best practices.

    Thanks!

I also put mine behind the rear passenger seat. An amp and two crossovers fit with no problem. Some good ideas and info in the audio section of TW. While you're at it you might want to look into adding sound deadening to the doors and back wall. I found it made a big difference in reducing the amount of outside noise.

LoL, I broke that same clip leg off being a dummy.

I just replaced my factory tweeters with some Titanium dome MB Quart tweeters. That alone was worth the price of admission. Totally cleaned up the sound of the factory radio. That "tweeter" is a joke.

While it is not a THUMPING stock stereo... I am fine with the clarity and volume of the system.

What did you use for the tweeter to wire? Or shall I say which is positive/negative. I saw video where it seemed like the connector was 4 or 5 pins.

The plug is four pin, I salvaged the plug off the factory tweeter and modified it. Required a little desoldering and soldering. Well worth it to keep the truck side factory.

Edit - I don't recall the colors, but the positive side has the capacitor soldered in series right on the "plug" so both wires on that side are the positive (+).

Hey guys. I have a 2016 with the regular Entune audio. Went to a shop today and got a couple quotes on replacing front speakers and a rear sub. What do you guys think is best? They want $2200 for everything. Obviously a huge cost that I am not willing to make.

Was given a quote for the following:

    Sub
    • Morel Admw 6" Mid-Bass W/ X-Over Fir 3Way Setup $539.95
    • Premium install services (custom box fiberglass mod) $500
    • Diamond Micro 4x800 amp $399.95
    • Basic install services $255
    • audiocontrol 2 Ch. Line Conv W/ Accubass $99.95
    • Install amp to factory radio with processor/converter, 4ch and bass knob $394.94
    Front Speakers
    • Audison Voce 2Way kit Av6.5 + Av1.1 + Cx2 $699
    • Standard install $150
    • Standard install of component speakers in door $284
