Oh yea you're right I've never once in my life taken a look under the front fenders of my truck....

 

in all fairness he didn't say you never looked under there, but that you've never stuck your arm up there.

Well for those interested in the on board water that i brought up last week, just an update... we tested a new pump model yesterday hoping it would be the perfect match for this kit and it didnt go as planned. It was slightly too large causing install to be a real pain and the psi switch on it was set too high causing the pump to not shut off promptly. We have now a 3rd pump to try which should be perfect since we have a lot of data from the first two setups. Finding the perfect balance of size, noise, gallon per minute rate, psi cutoff switch, and versatility isnt easy. I hope to have the 3rd kit built in a week or 2 so i can start sourcing parts and have kits built before the holiday season. A portable design is also in the works as well

 

Anyone who's ever changed out a UCA has put their hands up into the fender... this is an absurd argument if that dude wants to believe those little fender guards offer more protection than for a splash more power to him. I mean the whole underside of your engine bay if open to the air but the fender liners will keep water out when it's that deep yea

 

I've had some ideas about a snorkel

 

he is referring to the black plastic that covers the gap between your inner fender and your outer fender, there is a void there and you can get water in there if you cut it open.... trust me i know. it will kill your engine
the plastic does divert the water from going into your intake, a splash shield so to speak, i think what you need to do is go and take a picture of where your air intake starts. you will either not find it or notice that it is covered by that fender liner.

 

I went back to a stock box. Capped the side. Cut a hole in the front and made a shield as wel

I wasn't deep enough to reach my intake. Had a solid 12"

Also splash guard on the 4Runner fenders provides far more coverage than my Tacoma did. I really think I'd have to get water up to the upper grille to have a problem

 

with your fenders you could build your own for about $50 easily

 

I wanted to make one pretty bad. Had it al planned out. 3" exhaust tube.


This is the only reason why it didn't happen. I could have just cut it open and put a tube around the pipe

 

I just used an old ammo can for a splash guard and removed the inner fenders entirely. It works, and is considerably lighter than stock.

 

So I just order everything in the "Products discussed in this thread" list and I'm #EAF, right?

Edit: let's see if we can skew the data a bit and have this show up down there. Everyone needs a horse head mask to be expo.
