Is there a TSB for these squeaky leaf springs yet?

my dealership told me don't drive on dirt roads if i don't want it to squeak, they've never heard problems from anyone who stays on pavement.

    my previous dealership that is.

Has anyone heard of someone attempting to fix this squeak themselves and making it worse?

They should put that on the commercials.

I live out in the country. It's a mile and a half of dirt limerock, and mud when it rains, to even get to pavement..

Ok I leave in an area with lots of hot dusty roads. I've been looking at the Tacoma to purchase but all the 3rd gen I see in town are squeaking in and out of parking lots. I saw a friend parked in one and she got out and it squeaked lightly and I asked her if she liked her truck or noticed any squeaks and she said no. I think she was in denial or listens to music loud. I did test drive one I liked it but I have a ram ecodisel 2014 ( one of the first) and it is loaded so there is no comparison. The yotas do look sick. I think they both drove comparible but the yota was more nimble witch I like.

Doesn't seem to be affecting that many people. Had to be an actually cause. Some trucks get this, get a replacement then more squeaking. Something else is causing it.

Same thing with the howling diffs. Why do some people have it, get a replacement and it comes back and others never get it. Is something else causing it.

But it seems to be people who drive off road. Is there anyone who drives off road regularly and doesn't have a squeak?

See that is exactly the problem. I only go "off-road" maybe once a month. For like an hour lol. I'm talking about LIGHT off-roading mostly trails. Without mud. Without rocks. All sugar sand. And my truck squeaks bad.

    Dang,
I do want a taco but I don't want to be a squeaker all over town. I know if I got a taco mine would squeak like crazy. It's so dusty right now on dirt roads and I drive on beach. I'm sure they will find a fix for them it can't be that hard.

I don't regularly but I've taken the truck through some real fine dust and sand multiple times. To the point where there was enough sand blowing around to fill the "trenches" on the rear bumper.

No squeaks here. I live in SoCal though so it's been all dry dirt so far, no mud yet.

Mine squeak when going over bumps and railroad tracks. Normal driving conditions no squeak. Def a weak spring pack though. Squats a lot when towing.

Glad I found this thread. Pretty much describes everything I have been dealing with the past few days....

So mine started squeaking after off roading through some pretty good dirt and mud. I only have about 800 miles on the rig. I made sure to wash the truck and the undercarriage very well afterwards since I always do so after wheeling and getting muddy. The squeaking was driving me crazy and a quick google search brought me here and to a few other forums with people having this issue. After I heard about people getting their leafs replaced I made a service appointment, which I went to today.

That appointment was a huge waste of time. I dropped off the truck and showed the dude that took it in the issue, I even mentioned this was an issue that many other 2016 tacoma owners had.

A few hours later I get a call about it and am told that the leaf springs were "dirty" and they pressure washed them and the squeak went away (probably just due to them being wet). Needless to say I was skeptical anything was fixed, but I didn't want to go into a lengthy discussion over the phone and headed back to the dealer to pick up the truck and see what they did.

When I got there the service tech was obviously busy and in a hurry to get me out of there. I asked them what they did to fix it and he said there was dirt/mud on my springs (no shit bro, I live in New Mexico and am off road every few days) and that caused the squeaking. I brought up the fact that a quick google search indicated this was a known issue on 2016 Tacoma's; but he mentioned he had never seen this issue before. That's fine, but simply power washing it and telling me it's nothing to worry about is an insult to my intelligence. I wouldn't bring the truck in if it was something I could fix/prevent.

I was pretty much done with this guy at this point, and was ready to leave. I walked out to the truck and shook it really well and sure enough no noise. Could I just be paranoid and feeding into the issues others were having?? Maybe.

I drove it off the lot and about 15 minutes later the damn thing starts squeaking again just like before. I called back the dealership and they told me they couldn't see me again until Tuesday morning due to the holiday weekend. At this point I'm pretty pissed at the dealer, but I don't really have a choice right now and am waiting to see what happens Tuesday when I take it back.

If anyone has any suggestions or can provide me with what their dealer did to fix please let me know. Hopefully Tuesday they will actually look at it instead of using the bullshit problem solving methodology of just washing it and hoping for the best.

Typically if you hose them down thoroughly when they start squeaking they're good until the next time you get them dirty. It's fine particulate (mud sand dirt) getting in between the springs.

Not trying to scare you or anything but check this out. If you have troubles, more than one obviously, call corporate or just read this following post and see if any of your problems correlate with mine. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-look-at-my-truck.448851/page-6#post-13147354

Thanks for the info @ti3agooo . I am already a little worried about this truck. I am going to check out the U-bolts/joints tomorrow after I get some grease. Luckily I am not having the same transmission issues/diff issues as you. But then again I am only at 800 miles. Who know what might happen. I am also going to call corporate, but that seems like a black hole. In many ways I wish I had kept my '14 FJ Cruiser or just got a 4Runner.

    Go get some of this.

Jack the truck up by the frame so that the rear suspension is at full droop. Spread the leaves with a small pry bar or wedge at the tips of the leaf just enough(1/8" or so) to get the spray in between them throughly. Do this to both ends of each leaf in both spring packs. This stuff goes on wet then drys to leave a super slick film kind of like graphite. Have been using it for years and it will shut up just about any leaf spring suspension noise.

Well, don't think lube will do any good, since there are bumpers in between the leafs. The noise is originating in the front leaf spring bushing

Thanks for the good info. Unfortunately I'm not going to even bother with this since I think Toyota should have to fix this on a brand new truck with less than 1000 miles on it.

Yup but they don't have a fix for it unfortunately nor the howling diff which will come later. I am disappointed in Toyota.
