I do this preemptively when I know I'm about to haul grass.

Mine does it as well... if I use ECT it does not do it. I believe its the torque converter in the tranny and the other nannies that are active unless you turn them off.

I usually always have ECT on because the truck is such a dog without it. I will disable traction control this afternoon and see if i can duplicate. Thank you for the input.

I think this has been brought up a couple times. I have yet to figure out what is causing this to happen but switching to mid grade from 87 seems to help. I have had this happen in my manual when using auto LSD too. So traction control may not be it. It may be related to the Atkinson cycle mode changing or something engine program related. This is just my guess and I am not positive it isn't traction control but the way it kicks back in tells me that it has nothing to do with wheels spin. In fact, if I rev higher and dump the clutch it doesn't do it.

Do it out of traffic with the traction control off.

And maybe not jump in front of traffic to save a few seconds. It's Fucking stupid and why people talk about shitty drivers all the time.

if you are talking about matting it and expecting instant response LOL not gonna happen

you need to learn how to MAT it without matting it. learn to talk to your engine controller with your foot

the days of cable throttle and cable kickdown to the tranny are over.

if you can plan ahead a few seconds yes hold down the buttons and disable the automagic slip detection

it can be done (instant launch on a 2016 tacoma) but you don't directly mat the throttle to get there, it takes a sort of controlled timing across the throttle range to
do it, a fast stomp is too fast.

Drive around Atlanta for a few days and try and wait on an opening or someone to let you out... You'll be in that same spot for those few days. I really appreciate your witty response though. Nice avatar too.

thanks. I've had numerous fly by wire vehicle in the last 10 years and and understand the 'rolling into the throttle' concept to avoid throttle lag. I have never experienced anything like this though. It might as well just die... ZERO power for a second or two.

Yep, believe it. Not quite as cute as little pokes about 'BRO-DOZER's and such in yours, but i like it anyway.

Oh, and i lived in Framingham for 4 yrs... Doesn't even compare to the Atlanta suburbs level of traffic assholery.

Wow, I really thought it was an across the board and just 3.5 normality. I knew my '05 with the 4.0 could have blown the doors off my taco but I just chalked it up to the new setup and I was cool with it knowing it is saving my mpg's. I always referred it, to myself, as the "88 miles per hour" time travel boost when the flux capacitor kicked in.

Well if it is happening from a dead stop then I don't know what to say.

Must be transmission related, I can punch it in 1st gear and get going no problem from a stop with the manual then shift to 2nd at 4k RPM and there is no loss of power anywhere along the way.

It's definitely an automatic issue and I swear I've read reviews that talk about this.

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
I've driven a ton of brand new cars of many makes and models considering my friend owns a few dealerships (unfortunately not a Toyota one). 6 speed + transmissions, highly computer controlled engines, CAFE standards and ECM programming are doing a LOT of things all of the time. It takes getting used to, and from everything to Cadillacs to Priuses feel like this. My Silverado felt like this, my buddies GMC felt like this, and a newer F150 felt like this. Drive by wire has it's merits but it really takes away some interface.

This thread should be renamed to "Things are different and I don't like that."

I have to agree. Atlanta traffic sucks pretty bad, even on Sunday.

No.... this thread has the appropriate name. I am having an issue with MY truck and i was looking for anyone with any similar input or ideas. I love my truck and am not continually finding new ways to bash it on here like seems to be the norm. Different is one thing... a truck that dies when you punch it leaving you stranded in oncoming traffic is a safety hazard. Excuse me for looking for input on any one else's experience with their truck.

Sometimes i really don't even know why i bother posting questions on such a freaking opinionated site.... EVERYONE ON HERE IS NOT BITCHING ABOUT THEIR TRUCKS. Some of us just have genuine concerns and are looking for input.

My advice would be to first, LEARN TO DRIVE. If you are pulling out using WOT and almost getting hit, that is not a fault of the truck, it is a loose nut behind the steering wheel. Wait for a decent gap in traffic. You are not only risking your own well-being, you are risking the same for an innocent person driving down the road, following all the rules of safe driving.
