has anyone looked into converting their rear window into a powered rear window? Now with the TRD Pro having a powered rear window would it be pretty straight forward to buy the parts and DIY?

I always wished the taco had a powered rear or even better, the whole window drop down like the 4Runner and Cmax tundy.

I've been looking but until I see it ripped apart I have no way of seeing how hard it will be to install. My guess it would require a lot of fab. Subbed to see if anyone has more info.

Has anyone ever heard from Toyota as to why the taco doesn't have the drop down window? The 4Runner does and the trucks are very similar.

All TRD Double Cabs have the power slider not just the pros.

Most likely because you need more clearance for a drop down.

perhaps it has something to do with this (from the owners manual)...

Caution while driving Keep the back window closed while driving. If the back window is left open, the luggage may be unexpectedly thrown out, causing an accident. In addition, exhaust gases may enter the vehicle, causing death or a serious health hazard. Make sure to close the back window before driving.

not sure if the 4runner has some similar warning.

My 2010 4Runner had a very similar warning. That said - the best thing was having it and the sunroof open on a nice day (also my dog loved it). It seemed to have a lot less suction than the Taco's back window does.

suction or not, on certain weather days, I love driving with the rear window open- it is one of the nicer features on any pickup truck IMO.

Some folks have had their 17's for a few weeks now - there is a video of the power rear slider in a 17 on here somewhere.

Is the 6-10 week wait from the dealer accurate info?

For your truck? Probably -- it all depends on the allocation you got for your truck.

I ordered mine 8/11, received a build date of 9/2 (3 weeks later) and should have it 9/23-ish (3 weeks from build date).

So yeah, 4-6 weeks from order date sounds correct.

Agreed. That's one feature I really wish the Tacoma had. I would have gladly paid extra for it. When I found out the 17's were coming with the power sliding rear window I was really hoping it was the full window. I was a bit disappointed with it being just the center.

He liked the back of the T4R a lot better than the Tacoma.

Pop-n-lock tailgate. New radio knobs. Rear step.
I bought a 4Runner back in 2004 thinking that back window would be awesome. I couldn't use it because any throttle at all would make the car stink like sulphur. I believe they resolved this by switching catalysts a couple of years later. Some Toyotas of that vintage leave a tell-tale smell when accelerating.
