Hauling a rick of wood?

It's about that time for me to start thinking about stockpiling wood. Would a rick of red oak (only thing that grows around here) be too much for an '11 Taco (access 4x4 if that makes a difference)?

Online is says it should weigh 1300-2000 lbs (depending on moisture), that sounds like quite a bit and I can't seem to find a straight forward answer on actual rated payload. Would that be too much for a 3-4 mile trip? I've hauled a wet rick with a '96 S10, but that was kind of spooky, and the Taco is my daily driver, so I don't want to do anything that would put me out of a ride.

I only burn a couple rick a year, maybe 3 if it's a real cold one. Anyone done this before?

Ive loaded 2.7 prerunner to over the bed rails with wood before with no problem. but if youre only a few miles away, why not make a couple of trips and save your leaf springs some work?

 

I've loaded my Tacoma bed full of oak wood before not sure how much it weighed but it didn't hurt it you should be fine

One trip it, you are overthinking it my man. You'll wonder why you even second guessed after you are done!

 

I'd use this as an excuse to buy Dakars and then lift the front due to the excessive rake after the new leaf packs are in. That's the TW way.

Or you could just load it up and go. A rick should be fine if it's seasoned. I wouldn't do that much green wood. A cord would be way too much though.

 

A coworker had about 75 mature red oaks taken out of his back yard and told me I could have all I wanted.

I piled my 2005 Tacoma as high as I could stack it more times than I can count, with the bed extender flipped out. Never an issue, but boy did she ride low. Everybody was flashing me because my lights were pointed at the sky.

Install some Firestone ride rites then load away!! It'll ride level and save your leafs. It's a truck man, use it like one!!

 

I figured I was missing something seeing as though this is my second thread here. I've got nothing on it though...

I figured that would be the case, but I didn't know if that was just WAY overdoing it or not.

I'm apparently still running the old recalled springs (just bought the truck a month ago) so I've got an appointment on Wed for the inspection then hopefully the replacement soon there after.

oh yea and I also have air bags. otherwise I would have been riding on the bumpstops.

 

A rick, or face cord should be no problem. I load my '11 with a yard of mulch almost every spring and I estimate that at about 1200 lbs. It does ride low and on occasion hits the bump stops, but other than that all is good. The drive train seems to handle the load with eae. I would not travel cross country with the load, but locally you should be ok. If you are really worried, split the load into two trips

So you can do it, but she'll be riding low. I bounced mine off of the bump stops whenever I hit a bump with it loaded like this.

 

I load my DCLB 09 prerunner with a ric every year for camp wood. Fir and maple, with some pine and madrone; a heavy load. Its full front-to-back and side-to-side, stacked in level with the rails. I have the stock leaf pack (before TSB, that's next weekend) and I still have room to my bump stops.

First time I've heard the term.

As for weight, I've had mine loads level with a cord of wood and no problems. A face cord, or rick, should be easy.
