Went over to Stealth Customs to pick up a set of SR8's. Great to catch up with Vin and glad to see his business to doing well.

Right, sorry. We used to do Mass Tac jumps (about a battalion worth of people jumping - 1000 +/- people). We'd jump at night, like 1-3am and it'd be 1 bird after the other. C-130s hold 64 jumpers, C-17s hold about 100 jumpers. Before we jump they'd conduct heavy drops; HMMVS, Artillery pieces, Tractors, etc. Well they did heavy drop and a palletised HMMV had a complete malfunction on its chute (never opened) needless to say it fell about 1000 ft out of the sky and went kaboom on the dropzone. We came afterwards in our birds and the jump master saw the fire on the drop zone and scratched (canceled) the jump. I ended up getting put on heavy drop recovery (cleaning up the packing on the pallets and recovering the giant chutes the equipment uses) afterwards. Saw the HMMV, it was a pile of smoldering ash on a pallet. Was pretty cool.

Also I think you can find some videos online. The Russians experimented with their paratroopers; one they would do low passes over snow with the ramp down and jumpers would jump into the snow with no chutes, the other was trying to tailgate drop tanks with crewmembers in them. Needless to say both experiments did not end well and made me glad I was an American Paratrooper and not a commie! :oldglory:

Thank you all for your input!! Greatly appreciated. Def good call on the cheaper flights, nearly $150 less to fly outta OAK.

And I was digging Hanalei because it's where I went when I was a kid, never made it to the south part of the island... Is poipu better? The bigger swells on the north sound appealing :)

Anyone in Sonoma, Marin or SF have a soft topper they wouldn't mind showing to a friend of mine. He is in the market for one but wants to check it out in person before purchasing. I can vouch for him not being a murderer. 1 or 2 gen doesn't matter.

Just this year I was out at Hohenfels at JRTC rotation. There's a video of 3 Humvees "burning in" We saw the drops from a distance but didn't know what happened until later.

With all these mishaps, maybe they could mistakenly drop one into my driveway? :notsure:

You can buy HMMVs fairly cheap from military auctions.

    All you backyard grill masters....

Cryovac PRIME tri tip @ Costco, $4.89/lb.

    6-8 roasts per bag.

Won't find a better price for prime!

You can, but from what I have seen is the auction prices fluctuate greatly from the initial "starting bid" price to the finalized bidding price. Like crazy price differences..... and the other ones that don't sell for much are the junks that probably aren't worth a thing anyways. Also, last I heard, they still haven't made them street legal. Maybe they have by now, but that wasn't the case back when I was looking at them. Would be awesome to have one though.... smh

No kidding.... sheeesh. All I think about is the video of the HMMV driving through a creek submerged up to the roof and it was still driving around like it was nothing. Incredible how they built those machines. Might be kind of a bitch on some of the smaller trails though....... might have to be the "BBQ guy" and stay behind to setup camp every evening for everyone else. lol
